Can somebody suggest an actual upgrade? All the guys that fit what I'd want are all guys like Brannen. Who can we get that is an actual upgrade from day 1?

And if that list is Porter Moser and thats it, then wtf are we doing?

I don't think there is an actual upgrade on paper... The entire thing screams bring JB back iMo..

I agree, and I'm not even close to convinced he's getting fired. People are taking little snippets of speculation and running with it. We have no idea what's going on.

I still like Scott Nagy (to fit today's conversation, he was top 60 in both 3pt% and 3pt% defense the last two years). I don't think he's really an upgrade over Brennen though, just a lateral move.

Casey Alexander would be an upgrade to me and probably somebody we could get. Been around a bit longer than brannen, worked under Rick Byrd for a long time, took Lipscomb from 301 to 55 in 5 years. Always has really high 2 point % shooting on offense while also shooting 3's at a very high rate.

But other than that, I just don't see it.

I’d take slick rick in a heartbeat, even for 2 to 3 years. He also said he didn’t want to coach big time again, so that should make uc more attractive to him. SMH

Oh it will become big time in minutes. You literally lock up SW Ohio and KY. It’s basically no brainer. Pay him extra to redden on staff to guarantee Paul McMillan

Rick Pitino's buyout at Iona is 10 million dollars if you want him for 2021.

You can cross him off your list.

Spend $10 to make $50. I don’t know any business man wouldn’t do that deal. You’ll have waiting list for season tickets until he retires no matter if he wins lose or draw

So what are we realistically looking at here?

Archie Miller
Bryce Drew
Casey Alexander

Anybody else? Please no Huggins tree.

I can be sold on Archie Miller. He never could get Dayton into the top 50 (despite 1 lucky elite 8 run) and he only got indiana in the top 50 once. I can be sold on him though because he could bring some guys with him and seems like the best bet to get people from the portal. Also signed 1 top 100 guy that is local so hopefully he could do more.

Bryce Drew I dont know. Vandy was 18th the year before he was hired, then 29, then 90, then 161. That doesn't do it for me.

Casey Alexander - Took Lipscomb from a 300ish team to 55th in his 6 years there. Took over a young Belmont team and was around 100 both years. Checks my personal boxes for tempo, 3P rate, 2 point shooting, assist rate. His last 2 years ag Lipscomb they were elite in defensive rebounding and the past 3 years his teams have been top 50 in free throw rate defense.

Local coaches I'd say Scott Nagy or Casey Alexander. Huggins tree would be Erik Martin or Darren Savino. Retreads would be Archie Miller or Frank Martin. I'd guess one of those 6.

I moved all of the Brannen/Cunningham posts to the Season Updates thread. Let's keep this thread focused on potential coaching targets.

I’ll say the marketing you can run with Slick Rick and Luke worth $15mil. You need a name or we don’t sell out even 60% capacity of arena

John Jakus was a name thrown out briefly on 247. Currently a Baylor assistant coach (4 years), Indiana native. Coached HS in Cincinnati, then head coach in Europe and internationally, followed by three years as Director of Operations at Gonzaga and now at Baylor.

I’d rather someone like this. A new name that you give a chance to, than someone like an Archie. Mick and Huggs were up and comers. Hungry. That’s what we need in my opinion

I’d consider Archie, but maybe more for longevity. Given that he washed out at Indiana he may not be looking to move as quickly to a bigger program.

Don’t get me wrong. He would still need to be successful and recruit but may have a different perspective due to his experience with IU.
