Yancy played good but not his best game. Best games I have seen him play 1. Xavier last year 2. Missouri NCAA. 3. West Virgina freshman year.

Win 3 out of the next 5 and no bubble worries. This team will not get left out of the tourney with an 11-7 league record.

I think we can only afford to win the next 3/5 IF we beat UL and/or Marquette...

Winning 3 vs Seton Hall, USF, and Nova is not going to get it done unless we advance in the tourney

The defense down the stretch was brutal. Careless turnovers led to a lot of points but the defense was terrible. The press offense was fine if it weren't for a couple guards that made stupid nonchalant passes. Cash being one of them.

You are the if its not broken, dont fix it guy.

Yea they beat the press, but I called it before the anaylst did. Why just settle to get the ball past half court?? They had 3 on 2 opportunities the second they crossed the half court line and chose to pull up. That is not the team that went on the winning streak after the brawl.

The guards for Prov were shooting lights out and I dont care what kind of defense you play, guys are going to make tough shots. You just have to score more than them

Alright man, whatever you say. For someone who just wants to score it's amazing you have such a fascination for Gaines.

They ended winning by a decent margin. Sure they could have attacked the press every time but with 5 minutes remaining time is on their side. You were probably the one cheering when they attacked the press and instead of pulling it out, Mbodj took a terrible shot and gave the ball right back to Providence.

No, I watch games as I shine my rings.

My knowledge of sport is superior than the average fan.

The defense was ok. Guys had hands in faces, but Prov could not miss. Things went south when they pressed us and we acted as if we had never seen it.

And yes, we won by a decent margin because finally with about 2 min left, they did exactly what I was asking for. Imagine that

Putting your hands up in the air doesn't count as hands in the faces. They were open, and if you ever played basketball before you know if someone is off of you by a few feet, you are open.

No, with 2 minutes left they made their FT's, they weren't attacking the press. Under two minutes they pulled the ball back out.

How do you think they got to the line? Attacking

Pretty sure I saw Dixon throw it down on someone and guards on the run. As well as Gates attacking the rim.

Dont question my bball skills. 3 on 3 runner up at the Jerry Doerger bball camp in 6th grade. Beast

To show it isnt always about D. When Cinci scores 70 or more, they are 12-2

Guess we can debate this on and on. I saw Council make shots I've never seen him make. As I said he was a 30% 3 point shooter coming into the UC game. There were definitely defensive lapses but also some tough shots made.

Ummm, no, it was because Providence was intentionally fouling.

Dixon did throw it down, but it wasn't from attacking the press. I'm pretty sure you aren't even watching these games.

30% 3 point shooters become much better when they are open (unless you are Dixon). Not only that, add to the fact that he was able to build confidence by getting easy buckets at the hoop and you become an even better shooter. Do you really think it's coincidence that all these teams just happen to be on fire when they play UC???

Providence scored less than a point a possession against UC. They average 1.04 points per possession in conference play. It wasn't nearly as bad as you describe.

What?

Would it be because UC is 3rd in the league ppg Defense??

Looks like they crossed half court, got trapped and Dixon took the 3 on 2 to me!

Do you watch

against a very weak schedule. Take a look at the previous teams and see how some of their guards have fared.

where did you see them cross half court in that video? I guess the refs weren't paying attention since there was 21 seconds left on the shot clock when SK passed the ball. Oh, and the fact that Gates was down on the baseline with his man defending him tells you that they didn't just beat the press. What happened was SK backed it out and Providence tried to trap. Dixon then went in for the dunk. That played had nothing to do with attacking the press.

And what was Providence's ppp the first half compared to the second half? I'm guessing you don't have that info but if you do please share. The guy made 4 3 pointers. How many were in the second half?

Citing UC being 3rd in ppg in BE play isnt really fair given that ppg is heavily dependent on pace of play and not getting actual stops.

UC scored 1.274 points per possesion (Prov allowed 1.13 coming in)
UC allowed allowed 0.973 points per possession (Prov scored 1.05 coming in)
http://www.scacchoops.com/ViewHDGame.asp?hSchedule=13172 tracks all games individual per possession stats.

So, that pretty much sums up that UC was better than league average in stopping Providence , and better than league average in scoring on Prov. But the UC defense has to get better for this team to make any kind of run. I think a lot of fans on here would be shocked to see Cincy is tied for 5th in the conference in pts scored per possession, bc it seems like all that ever gets talked about is the teams offense, or lack of it.

I think the issue with our defense is our transition defense. We allow too many easy layups off of missed shots. Our half court defense is generally pretty good. I think it could be better for sure. But its solid.

Sometimes you just have to give credit to the other guy. Providence has good players too and Council was great the other night. You have to give him credit. Still, UC was the first team to beat Providence by double digits (15) since Pitt beat them by 12 on January 25th. In Providence's last 4 losses (before UC), they lost by 7, 2, 3 (OT), and 3 or 15 points total. Those were games against USF, Nova, WVU, and USF.

I agree. We actually allow too many easy shots off of makes when the other team gets the ball in quick and we are not pressuring in the back court. While the press didn't generate much in terms of steals against Providence, it did slow them down off of made shots and forced them to play against our half court defense. This was very effective especially in the first half.

They pressed about the entire 2nd half!!

Youre are right. We crossed half court then they decided to send 3 guys out to trap and leave it 3 on 2 in the back court. Get real

At the 20 min Mark Providence was scoring 0.79 points per possession

at the final score, their whole game average was .973 http://www.scacchoops.com/ViewHDGame.asp?hSchedule=13172&bView=7&sInclude=doffeff

I dont have access to exactly how many more possessions were in the 2nd half than the first half (there almost definitely was due to end of game fouling/ being in scramble mode)

We'll just assume the same # for each half though and see what we get
.973-.79= .183
.183+.973= 1.156 ppp in the 2nd half

1st half UC allowed .79 points per possession
2nd half UC allowed 1.156 points per possession
(this isnt completely accurate due to differing #s of possessions in each half, but its close enough)

Basically the Defense was elite of all elite in the 1st half holding a team scoring 1.05 ppp to 0.79 2nd half, not so much.
