Bishop is "officially" back with the team as most suspected, not a surprise at all.

Senior forward Rashad Bishop has had his scholarship renewed and is back in good graces with the basketball team, Mick Cronin said today.

The 6-6, 225-pound Bishop had been suspended since last March just before the Big East tournament for violating team rules

“He’s with us,” Cronin said, “but he also understands his provisions.”

Cronin said Bishop is in the best shape of his career.

“Part of being suspended was that he didn’t go home because he’s been here working on academics and doing some extra conditioning,” Cronin said. “He’s lean and he’s moving well.”

Bishop has more experience than any other UC player. He has started 20 games last year, averaging 8.4 points, and has started 70 games since arriving at UC in 2007.

“Having him back is a big positive for us,” Cronin said. “He does a lot things well. He does a lot of things you can’t teach. He plays with great patience on offense and he can defend a lot of positons.”

Good news. Bishop will be the x factor for this team. If he plays with a purpose, like he did against Villanova last year, then the Cats willl be a team to be reckoned with. As a senior, one would hope he will play with some urgercy and take a leadership role.

A true make or break player for this program. He has the ability to influence a lot this coming season, on and off the court.
