I was out of town and missed the scrimmage and just watched the 14 min. clip. I was impressed with the whole team. I like Tre Scott but am afraid he will never have enough arc on his shot. Broome looks as advertised. I really watched what Keith Williams was doing. One play he missed a bunny but split two defenders to get that shot. His anticipation on the outside got him a breakaway steal and almost 2 more. I also liked his closeouts on the perimeter. He is different than Cumberland but can score at all 3 levels the same way. May have changed my mind about E. Nsoseme redshirting he is a tough /relentless big who has pretty good mobility. I truly hope nobody redshirts and we take care of our opponents early and give the back-ups some minutes.
Gotta say I think you were right on Williams. He's a little different from Cumberland and Evans. He was born to get in the lane with his speed, athleticism, and change of pace. He can find a crease and uses his body well against contact. Very good control for how fast he can go. Obviously he needs to watch the turnovers...he has no choice really.
Cumberland uses brute strength and Evans prefers open space or a pull up J. We have 3 (well 4 really) very different wings.
Williams is what Morman wanted to be.
Yah maybe not a bad comparison. Keith Williams actually reminds me a little of Herb Jones.
There is just no way Broome shouldn't be getting 30 minutes a game, any time Jenifer cuts into that is bad for the team. The offense is much more of a threat when Broome is out there. His pick and roll game with Kyle is going to drive teams nuts. Jenifer doesn't have that.
Jenifer is fine as a back up but I still dont see anything that makes me think he's a starter on a top 15 team. He doesn't excel at anything and I think he still struggles on the defensive end. He's still not a shooter (despite hitting 2 3s) and doesn't get to the rim nearly as easily as Broome. Also FT's are very poor.
You can see the talent in Williams but he's not going to be Evans or even Cumberland as a freshman. Moore is the most serious guy on the court and definitely wasn't playing like it was practice. He was also absolutely fearless when he drove, like f the world im coming right at you. He didn't finish but he got FTs.
Nsoseme looked miles ahead of Diarra. He looks like he can come give you hustle minutes and rebound and grab loose balls. Diarra doesn't look like a guy you can give any minutes to unless he comes in with the walk ons. That was disappointing to see.
I thought Brooks struggled mightily. Numerous 5 footers missed and really struggled to grab rebounds. Scott looked much better I thought but I think finding a position for him could be a problem. He's just not a down low player on either end. I think thats why his minutes went down last year as the year went on.
If we are going to be the team we want to be it has to be Broome. He went 1v3 twice which ended up in layups for the other team. That has to be the only thing holding Mick back. But he's going to have to live with it for us to be our best.
Thanks for the breakdown.
Based on just seeing the stats, I'm surprised to see you say that Brooks struggled. It definitely wasn't an easy get for the black team. Hopefully those guys all look better when playing alongside a few starters.
I'd side with you on Broome. I'd really like Jenifer to take on the role of getting the younger guys on the second team acclimated to Bearcat level expectations.

The one thing about the rebounding stats is that Wash, Clark, and Nsoseme had 13 offensive rebounds. Brooks somehow hit the higher difficulty shots and struggled with the gimmies.
We definitely have reasons to be optimistic about the up coming season, but I dont think its fair to say there aren't some concerns about PG play and overall depth. We dont have a cumberland coming off the bench this year. I feel like our bench this year is good enough to fill in for short spurts but if Wash and Clark get in foul trouble it will be an uneasy game.
What defense do you guys think we'll play this season? I wasn't at the scrimmage, but I heard we played 100% man to man. Think we'll see much matchup zone this year?
Imo I think Keith can easily throw in 8 points a game off the bench. I think while our bench (assuming the 2nd team is Jenifer, Williams, Moore, Scott and brooks) will score less than our starters, I actually think they will defend much better. Brooks And Scott will protect the rim, Jenifer will hound the ball. And defensively, outside of a few dumb fouls, I liked what i saw from Moore and Williams who both seem like willing defenders who understand that’s where they will earn micks trust.
Jenifer played well with the red team in the first half. I thought that they had more offensive flow where as with cane they seemed to score easily because of sheer talent. My impression walking away from Saturday’s game was; I feel good about our PG situation.
The only thing I’m uneasy about is closing games and who is our fearless leader. By committee will keep defenses on their toes but you need an alpha in those moments

Ill start from the bottom and work up. Broome is the guy thats fearless. He's laid back sure, but not in the laid back passive way Caupain was. He's laid back cocky, you can see it in the way he walks and handles himself. This is a good thing.
The rest I just completely disagree with. Cumberland got 8 points a game last year and his game was absolutely college ready. Williams' isn't, not to mention there aren't 20 minutes of PT for the back up guard this year. Cumberland is clearly the better player between the two where last year KJ vs Cumberland wasn't a clear win for KJ (or a win at all but thats an old convo).
If Mick cannot live with Broome's poor decision making at time that means we have to go with Jenifer. Jenifer is not where Caupain was as a player, so if our team wants to be better, it has to be because Broome gives us something we haven't had in the past. I think it's slightly concerning how much Mick talks up Jenifer and the fact that they even split time with the top group. It shouldn't be a contest between the 2.

I agree. I think he finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The teams Jenifer lead scored a combined 84 points vs cane’s team scoring 77.
It’s just one match up, but that can’t be overlooked.
Cane is always going to put up better numbers but who do I trust to protect the ball? Easily Jenifer at this point. Cane threw a lazy pass that was picked off by Keith for an easy dunk. He can’t do that in the game. I have no doubt cane is the better player, but Jenifer is working his ass off and I think he deserves some credit and some run on this team
