Mets backed out because they didn't like Gomez bad hip.

Both sides have their own stories, Melvin can't comment on anything health wise due to HIPPAA regulations but it was stated that there was a health concern with Wheeler. The other story is that Boras leaked the trade before it was a done deal and he is saving face by saying that Gomez is not hurt. He has only missed one game since June.

@JeffPassan
Return for David Price was exact same as that for Johnny Cueto: three left-handed pitching prospects. One scout likes Cincy's trio better.

Only way the Mets trade Zack Wheeler today is in a Jay Bruce deal, which is still alive and well. Won't deal him for a rental corner OF.

Thoughts on the Leake trade?

Seems to me that the Reds are doing a good job of rebuilding the pitching staff.

I would have kept Mike Leake. He's a great athlete. He's goes out there every 5th day and for the most part gives the Reds quality innings. He's an excellent bunter, runs well and fields his position as good as anyone. Not to mention a great hitting pitcher and a very competitive attitude. I think on the free agent market, the Reds would get out bid. Leake was bent on trying that market. The Reds may have lost him at that point. My point is that I would have tried to sign him prior to free agency. 70-80 million for five years would be acceptable.

Leake is in a walk year so WJ may have given a QO that he may have taken but he would have been expensive to pay for a league average pitcher if he was extended an offer. He is replaceable with the guys that were traded for and the guys in the minors.

Pitchers and catchers reported today. Will be interesting to see all the young pitchers competing for spots in the rotation
