Find me the NCAA rules for what your saying because that’s not true from what I’ve seen. It’s doesnt say it has to be season ending.....

Literally like the first three links on google...Plus I had to go through this myself when I was a student athlete.

We are talking about basketball different sports have different rules and Diarra does not have a season ending injury, he got hurt and didn’t play enough games. Those might be the old rules

What? Youre just making stuff up now. The NCAA does not have different rules depending on which sport you play when it comes to things like this. Where have they talked about his injury and how serious it is?

Speaking of being a student athlete. When I was a student and playing intramurals (haha)...we had a team from my dorm and I am as sure as I can be we played against a team that had Lazelle Durden on it. I think he may have been a red shirt or something around 91-92. I kid you not he was in intramural basketball with a group of fat kids.

We tried to guard him out to NBA range and he just kept pumping 3's with 2 or 3 guys on him. He beat us himself. If I had to rely on logic I would say there is no way he played intramural...but my friends and I are damn sure it was him. I am not even kidding here...

I don't know of any bball team players who did intramural but I know guys from other sports who would do intramural basketball or be at the rec regularly during off season.

From chad
Has been in the works for a while. He has been limited due to an injury and was under the limit in games played. Best case scenario for all involved...

Yah...we played against football guys but I swear we played Durden in BB.

If no injury what are the rules for games played? Can anyone redshirt with a game played but no injury?

For anyone who doesn't want to read through it, the part pertaining to what we are discussing states:

2.8.1.7.1.1 Circumstances Beyond Control. Circumstances considered to be beyond the control of the student-athlete or the institution and do not cause a participation opportunity to be used shall include, but are not limited to, the following: (Adopted: 8/10/94, Revised: 10/12/95, 8/12/97, 1/9/06, 7/30/10, 7/31/14)

(a) Situations clearly supported by contemporaneous medical documentation, which states that a student-athlete is unable to participate in intercollegiate competition as a result of incapacitating physical or mental circumstances;

“This is what we sometimes refer to as a "medical redshirt" but probably shouldn't, because, in the long run, it's no different than a regular redshirt. An athlete is allowed a hardship waiver if he gets injured in the first half of the season and has participated in no more than 3 events or 30% of the scheduled season (whichever is greater). The end result of a hardship waiver is exactly the same as a regular redshirt. The waiver essentially allows you to ignore that you have participated in that season and to treat it as if you never competed at all.”
