It says SDSU can only back out if Cincinnati finds a comparable opponent to fill out their schedule. I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think Mick and Whit are going to screw themselves by putting it off and replacing SDSU with a cupcake. At least I hope not.

They helped create the problem. They accepted membership to the Big East as football only and we were helping them out by giving them a good non conference matchup in basketball. They didn't return the favor by abandoning ship with Boise State which played a big role in the Big East collapse. I wouldn't go out of the way to help them any now. They'll just have to live with the tough schedule they have for the coming year. Besides if they want to be claimed as being a top tier basketball school they need to win their share of tough non conference games and not just rely on the Mountain West being considered good.

I would only let them out IF I could find a BETTER out of conference game to replace them at home. Odds of that right now are slim so, too bad SDSU. Suck it up or ask someone else on your schedule.

Why? The AAC schedule is tough enough, Memphis, Temple, UConn, Louisville double round robin next season. AAC will send 50% or more of the 10 teams to the NCAA Tourney next season.

I have no problem moving the game to the 2014-2015 season.

We're constantly on the losing end of the schedule shuffle. We had to scramble to fill West Virginia and TCU on the football schedule last year. This years football schedule had to be changed when Boise St. and SDSU backed out at the last minute after schedules were set. Now they want us to find another non conference basketball game at the last minute because they feel their schedule is too hard for the coming year after rejoining the Mountain West. This time the balls in our court and we shouldn't make concessions unless we have something better to replace them with.

Edit to add: We would have had a harder schedule had all the Catholic schools stayed for this season as was expected when we first scheduled the SDSU game than we will now so it's not like the SDSU game is gonna make our schedule too hard.

I heard today there was two non-conf games that are trying to be worked out that would be very pleasing to the UC fanbase. It may take a nuetral site to land them.

UTEP? I'm guessing that's not the game that will "make the fanbase very happy".

But it is a solid top 100 RPI game, UTEP is bringing in a top 25 recruiting class. A home and home with them is a good replacement to a 200+ RPI team. Wasn't saying it was one of the games Jeff was referring too anyways, just remember it is a possibility.

UTEP replaces SDSU?

Not accusing you of anything; but you're right, definitely better than the alternatives.

UTEP will be a decent game. I'll take that over a 300 rpi team but no it wasn't one of the games I heard of. Time will tell if it happens I suppose.
