Also the timing is worrisome. They need to fire him asap (cause they're clearly going to) so they can start the search and interviews. We need a new coach quickly.

Wrap it up with cause and the job doesn't look so bad. Drag it out over minor stuff and then fire him, and who on earth would want to work under Cunningham.

I think that is the issue most of the people they go after to coach will have, why would I want to work for Cunningham? Look at other schools who get caught giving out money or have recruiting violations and the HC still remains at the school, I don't know the allegations other than over practice time stuff, but allegations is a very harsh word to use in the NCAA terms. If they are going to fire JB over some ticky tak rule violation like that. I think the JB UC relationship is beyond repair and he needs to go but man unless we knock it out of the park with the next hire, I see dark days on the horizon for this basketball program.....

Bohn didn’t hire the right guy either. And didn’t try hard at all to retain Mick.

Cunningham has never hired someone before. But I’d say when it comes to basketball it won’t be hard to beat Bohn, who’s first choice was Frank Martin and who’s 2nd choice was John Brannen

I’ll take Archie and he’d supposedly be very interested in the job and we could get Indiana to be covering a decent portion of his contract for threee years. And then backload the rest

I have no idea why this is so hard to grasp though. The AD nor the prez like John, neither do his players, he’s an unlikeable guy who also just happened to have the 2nd worst season in the Kenpom era at UC

The violations aren’t the reason Cunningham Is firing brannen. He’s firing brannen for all the other shit and the CARA violations are just to save the school we all love 5 million dollars

John brannen wasn’t going to work out at UC. It was clear.

But if I had to guess, John brannen and his rift with the new strength coach is the reason he’s being fired. John likely demanded he work out players who were over 20 hours even though he knew it. Which is far more then just simply going over hours. Its knowingly and willingly doing it. And when your players are already at their breaking point mentally, it’s even more negligent

word is JB will be placed on administrative leave today...that means the investigators found cause and uc is moving towards resolution

I know some of you are bummed we aren’t keeping John wooden, I mean John Brannen. But I do believe we will recover with the right hire.

Not why you chose my post to include that some people will be bummed about not keeping him. I've said since the wave of transfers hit that we needed to move on, and that he was a lame duck coach.

If this is true, that he's being placed on adminstrative leave, then that's not the news I was hoping for. This entire process seems like it's running two weeks behind.

The statement by Cunningham about the allegations and outside investigation should have been at least a week prior. And I'm not sure why he couldn't have put on leave earlier either.

They need to end this bs ASAP. We need a new coach, in place and recruiting, by the end of next week at the very latest.

Sorry wasn’t meant for you. I just responded to last comment

Who are the right guys?

Guys that want to play modern basketball. It's going to get harder and harder to win playing the old style without top recruits. A guy is going to have to do more with less, and taking advantage of the way the game is shifting is a nice step forward.

You are looking for a non-prickly John Brannen type. Somebody that clearly knows how to develop players and pick the ones he wants.

Personality wise.. fine..
But in fairly confident that John can develop players and has a modern approach to basketball.

I'm honestly not sure whose going to be any better.

To me coaches that can do more with less are coaches who know how to coach defense and demand effort.

I’d take a Kelvin Sampson type coach all day. A guy who knows how to evaluate offensive talent and let’s them show their skills in year 1. Who gets the bulk of his scoring from the guards and the bulk of his toughness/rebounding/defense from his bigs.

I think basketball is a guard dominated game. So I want my bigs to do what bigs do best m: defend the rim & rebound

Let the other 3 guys on the court score and win

Congrats. Sampson sounds great. If he is out Maybe we can see if coach K is available

Wow

You really think John Brannen is the best UC can do?

You either think really high of John or piss poor of UC.

John has two career top 50 wins. Nothing John has done has ever proved that he is ready for this next level.

Nate Oates, mussleman, mike young all won games that showed they were ready for the big jump.

John never did.

Are confusing brannen with Wooden?

I'm not sure either. But if John wasn't an alleged prick, he would still be here with a young roster that looks great and we would be pretty happy. Almost everybody was happy with the progress our team showed at the end of this season.

So we want those things, just from a guy that everybody doesn't hate.

People talking about coaches that have already established systems of continued success, I mean thats great, but they aren't coming here. Houston got Sampson because he got caught doing minor stuff at IU and took 7 years off from head coaching.

If you guys have some names of guys that have made sweet 16s, elite 8s, and final 4s, but screwed up about 7 years ago that need a job and are still younger than 60, point them out.

Hasn’t brannen won his league 4 out of the last 5 years? Or something like that. I get you don’t like the guy, to be fair, it seems like no one does, but I think the guy knows basketball.

We will see who we land... On paper I don't think it will match our current HC resume.

This. Say what you want about brannen, I’m guessing a lot of it’s is true at this point, but this guy gets good players that aren’t highly rated. He also made the championship game with mainly freshmen and sophomores. We got killed but it turns out Houston is pretty good and almost all of them are grown men. The future looked bright until every left

I'm really not sure how a guy could be excited about Archie Miller, but hate the John Brannen signing.

Archie has proven twice that he peaks at the 50-60 range. He went to a better job than this one, with Big 10 money and resources, and they didn't get any better in his 4 years there. He gets recruits, but his teams just don't play well.

This is how I feel about Archie. What proof do we have he’s better than brannen. I’m not sure brannen would do much worse if he had Indiana’s resources and money behind him.

I think he knows what his teams need to do to win. I believe he has zero ideas how stop others teams from doing what he need them to do to lose

I was hoping today would be the day, but sounds like we have to wait. Sounds like Chad reported that Brannen was placed on (or soon will be placed on) administrative leave. That would essentially guarantee that he is gone. At least we don't have to worry about Brannen going somewhere else, having success and us having regrets.

I am not fond of Archie. He didn't rebuild Dayton, he took a successful team and made it a bit better. He tried to rebuild IU and failed. UC needs a rebuild. Also, Archie seems pretty much like a worse Cronin. Boring, defense first style of play. But his defense isn't as good as Cronin's and his offense either isn't.

But as for him being better than Brannen, just about anyone would be better than Brannen at this point. Brannen's recruiting ability has been decimated. He shot himself in the foot with the transfer and toxic culture, then the admin finished him off. Brannen's resume at NKU looked fine, but the toxic culture/locker room problems don't show up on his resume. The hints of problems at NKU were missed or ignored (maybe because Bohn had a foot out the door).

Tell us everything you know about the nku locker room. Curious to hear the truth from someone that knows
