Should UC be scheduling such a difficult OOC schedule?

I'm not so sure UC is prepared to play the tough Non-con they have assembled. I think in order to make the tournament, they have to do really well in the non conference, but I'm thinking Mick put together a little too difficult of a non con schedule.

I hope you and the other 3 Xavier fans that texted me after the game shit this. I will just say its early and be careful how much smack you talk. Long season.

Like I've been saying all off season the defense is going to be the biggest concern. This could be one of those highly rated preseason teams that absolutely flops out of everything and misses the post season if Mick doesn't rip the ship. Sorry but how can a coach struggle with having a successful team so badly? Like maybe once when they are young but you have a team full of vets still way too overconfident.

Mick has to get it done. He dropped the ball. Period. I understand we are without 2 of the top 7 but this was a joke of a loss.

What you have to consider is Mick coached the game as if it were practice. He did not coach it as if it was a must win game. The game itself is meaningless, UC's NCAA Tourney bid will be based on how they do in the Big East Conference, not on out of Conference games. Alan Iverson said it best "practice, practice, you are getting on me about practice?"

Days like this I wish I were a bandwagon fan. Terrible losses by my teams today. Don't even know what to say

First time I have seen you diss Mick. You are right, you can never treat a game as a practice and Mick shouldn't have. While UCs bid is all what they do in Big East, If they make the tournament this game will have an affect on the seed so it isn't exactly meaningless

Ok, took a deep breath

I did not get to see the game. Thankfully...

I did read Mick's postgame comments. And I get it, defense wins championships, but you still have to put the ball in the hoop. Presbytian scored 56 pts and Mick is concerned with the D?? Lazy or not holding an opponent to 56 pts and youre complaining about the D!! How about putting the ball in the hoop. As I've mentioned, the team was so anxious to dribble the ball down the court and put up the open 3 in previous games. Well when those arent falling you need to find ways to get looks at the high percentage shot; layups, dunks, runners. I just havent seen it yet. Maybe they had those looks tonight, I dont know

I see where you're coming from but they shouldn't have scored 56. They held them to 19 in the first half no reason they should have gotten higher than 45 in that game. As with the offense getting cheik in there should definently help.
As with the starter of this thread you got nothing better to do on a saturday night then to wait around till UC loses to post on this board ha well done sir.
We will be fine Mick will kill them and we will win by 25 monday no big deal.

What a miserable, terrible loss yesterday. This is not on the players, but on Mick and the staff. You can't say after the game that I saw this coming, and then before the game say that I hope the younger guys get a good amount of game time today. They didn't take this team seriously, from the top down, and it showed. Now, not only are they not in the Top 25, won't and shouldn't be for a long time, but are the laughing stock of college basketball. And its well deserved. I also don't understand the thought of baby-ing Cheik so much. Is his ankle sprain career threatening? Mick was acting like they were so good that they did not need him in the early part of the season. That they could just roll the ball out and they would win. Now that they lost, it is that they are missing Chiek and Parker, and will be a differnent team when they return. Give me a break. They should have beaten Presbyterian with the second unit if they had come in mentally prepared. Thats on the coaching staff. Embarrassing.

I agree this is embarrassing. I agree they should have blown this team out. However I disagree that this is on the staff.

Mick has thrown players out of practice. He has said this team hasn't stayed humble and is having a hard time handling prosperity. I believe he did see it happening and has tried to convey to the players this was inevidible.

The players have shown a serious disinterest in every game and have failed in effort. Especially once they got a lead. Yancy said after the game, "maybe this will humble us" verifying Micks concerns . If it doesn't nothing will.

Our former coach used to say the same thing after a loss and poor practice prep by the players. They have to remember what got them their success. It was hard work. My hope is this loss will be the catalyst to a great season.

There is a total lack of agression. Monday should tell us if the message was received. I'm now very concerned about a total lack of bench scoring and defense by this team. Only game three but Monday is huge in terms of which way this team is going.

After the two losses yesterday I went to the Clade Wade Bailey bridge to jump off. Out of nowhere my guardian angel Clarence appeared. He showed me how wonderful it is to be a Bearcats fan. He saved me.

We can only hope.

And don't get me wrong, I agree letting that team score 37 pts in the 2nd half is a lack of effort, but when you yourself are only scoring 54 and as a whole the other team only scored 56. I'm not putting all the blame on Mick for this as kids have to put the ball in the hoop, but I would like to see a little more emphasis put on the offensive end. Make it easier on your players to do so with better offensive looks and sets.

In his own comments Mick completely disregards the scoring effort....

“I know a lot of people are going to talk about 22-of-62 shooting from the field. Offensive this and offensive that. But we gave up 37 points in the second half." Mick Cronin

I don't think Mick is disregarding the offensive output. I just think he's emphasizing the defensive breakdowns more. He's continually said that his teams need to score in the 70+ range to be really good. I agree with his hard stance on defense though. Your shots aren't always going to fall at a high percentage, but you should always be able to play hard, fundamental defense, especially if that is one of the calling cards of your program.

Add in the 38 they gave up to Jacksonville St after the half and that's 75 points they have allowed in the last two second halves. That's a problem.

Mick def hangs his hat on good defense. Bottom line is they scored 54 pts against Presbyterian. That is why they lost the game, IMO

No. The inability to run an offense did. Our half court offense is pathetic. Enough about defense. Outscore your opponent, theres two approaches.

Mick is never going to have good offensive teams, get over that fact and you'll see how simple the formula is to win. Play good defense and play with intensity and UC will be fine. (and get back Mbodj and Parker).
