We don't know these kids personally. I think everyone just needs to relax. It's an article, people will see in it what they see in it.

I like Clark and Moore. They both bring height, athleticism and basketball skill.
In the past, we've had sort of a hodge podge of players with different abilities, seems like with pick ups like Thomas and Lawrence and now these two; we have a coherent scheme we're going for. Recruiting seems to be turning the corner. I am curious about Deberry. We often talk about the stars of a program but rarely about the supporting cast. He seems to already know his role, I just wonder how his transition to the speed of high major basketball will go. If he gets it right away, it takes a lot of pressure off Strickland.

With Juco's thus far, I keep feeling like if we had 4 years rather than two, they'd be very good. Mbodj was coming around last year, Rubles is really good now but if he had two more years? :D

Some of us do know these kids personally. What you see and what is actually reality many times, and of course in this case regarding CaptDale, is very different. His interpretation of Gary's quotes and personality are wrong. Period.

I'm not looking to argue but...
Unless you are going to prove that with something, that in and of itself is just an opinion. You can't just declare something wrong because that something is wrong, that's circular and childish. If Pepsi came out with an advertisement tomorrow declaring "Pepsi is best because Pepsi is best." anyone swayed by said ad would be clinically brain dead. Likewise saying Clark isn't selfish because Clark isn't selfish, makes no sense.
He felt the answers came off as selfish, you can disagree if you want but unless you have some way of broadcasting the young man's conscience for us all to see, calling him some super altruistic, down to earth, saintly, christ-like figure beyond scrutiny or question is ridiculous. He's 18, he's going to be a little bit prideful. Wouldn't want him playing competitive sports if he wasn't. ;)

It was a reaction to an interview, you may know him personally, but all capt had was the answers to questions.

Once again not all opinions are created equal. I said he was entitled to his opinion. Ive met Gary and know a few that know him personally on a deeper level including Chad. Every single one of them would agree that he has exceptional character and is extremely humble. Comes from a great family. Im flat out saying his interpretation of Gary is not what is true in reality. Some of us know more than others about certain situations. However you should be able to do a little bit of research about the kid and find out if that is a problem. If you did that or just simply watched the press conference you would know that is not his personality to be all "Its all about me". CaptDale is 100% wrong in his opinion. I dont give a damn how he reads it. I dont give a damn how anyone reads it. I care about what is true. I get fired up when something negative is said about one of the players or recruits that simply doesnt match up with what the reality is. That's why I defend them aggressively.

What people show to the world and what is actually in their head is not inherently the same. Many of us keep what we feel close to the chest and to pretend that you can gather the full scape of a personality based on press conferences and third hand information is pretentious. HOWEVER, I'm not interested in going back and forth. We all have our opinions, personally, I think it a bit creepy how much attention these kids get from recruiters and media personalities. The inquiries of lifeless, creepy ass people from ESPN and
247sports/rivals/local media is pitiful. Likewise is, the idea that these players consider us part of their world.

I like sports, players come and go but I don't pretend to know their inner workings. I imagine if I were one of them, trotting out like a stage elephant to different events, be it signing or radio interviews; just to hear some d'bag talk about me like he was in my daily life, I'd be quite annoyed. Now we're drifting a bit off topic though...

Like I said, glad we have the class we do. Certainly come a ways.

I never said I had the full scope of his personality. However you can definitely come to a conclusion when you have an overwhelming amount of evidence. I would never claim to know what goes on inside someone's head. I go off the evidence I have in front of me. The evidence sways overwhelmingly in a certain way in this case. So I respectfully think your argument is short sighted. Anybody can be anything inside of their head. What we have to go off of is the evidence we are presented with. Everything I have on Gary tells me he is of great character. Personally meeting him, people who know him, his coach's comments, the fact that Cronin and Davis have said similar things about him and that they recruited him, and on down the list.

I get what you're saying and Mick has said it before as well, but at the same time jucos have two years prior to coming here to get as "good" as they are when they get here. Would we have wanted an Ibrahima Thomas or Mbodj two years prior to when they got here? Who knows how raw they were then and if they would've developed riding the bench at a D-1 program as opposed to getting PT at a juco. It's not really fair to assume the way they play as juniors would be comparable to how they would've played as freshman. And I do get the argument is that it sucks to only have them two years instead of four, not necessarily that their development would be different. Just a different take on the subject. On that same note, North Texas fans might be saying after next year how much they wish they had Kelvin Gaines for two more years. I bet if they had watched him his two (three) years here they wouldn't be saying that.

Not really want to have a major discussion about X but...does someone here have any info on how they were able to get the No. 6 rated recruiting class? I know its all unproven numbers/rankings but still..what are they doing to get these guys that we aren't? Is there some shady deals going on? I wouldn't trust Mack for anything. Yes they have a nice arena but what else? I'm not impressed with their campus, life around their campus is dismal. I don't see how you can claim the Big East helping them..it didn't work for us. So why them?

This is not meant to knock UC, but a lot of people like the smaller environment of X and the fact that basketball is the sole athletic focus of the school. There are a lot more schools with similar profiles to UC than there are to X.

UC is putting a lot of money into Nippert, but what is going towards the basketball program?

Nothing and its been that way for awhile now. I am assuming UC is planning on using some of the money the additions to Nippert will bring in. Its unfortunate UC has not made bball a main focus. I guess its because football drives everything if we want to be in a power conference.

Like I said before, I hope my interpretation is wrong. The quote was about him being about to showcase his talents. Here's the quote:
“Because I can bang on the inside and rebound, and I will get the opportunity to showcase my skills on the perimeter. I just feel like I’ll be able to show a lot of my game at Cincinnati.”
I would have liked to heard: Hopefully my abilities can help this team. Then the braggadocio.
That's an individual statement. Period. Everybody is entitled to his opinion. And that's the end ofmy comments on this issue.
you really aren't criticizing Clark based on your misinterpretation are you. He was talking about the advantages of going to cincy. You need help. He didn't respond as you would have liked so he is a braggart? Wow!

Attendance in football has skyrocketed the last ten years, while basketball has dropped. The fans spending their money made that decision for the university as did the need to be viable in football to generate revenue. If the fans show up to the Shoe and give their money then the university will in kind give more money to the program.

Ah, the proverbial "chicken or the egg"
