I know it means nothing, but #34 on their recruiting class rankings ain't that bad.

.....and it ain't that good either. We're only 4th best in a mid-major conference. To get where we want to go, it needs to be higher.

Recruiting rankings are weird, though. They think more bodies is always better. There are teams with two 5-star guys ranked lower than teams with a few 4-stars.

I fully trust Mick, and think all 3 players we've added will be great, but I sort of get what you're saying. This recruiting class is "nice" and "fine," if you strictly go by rankings, but I think we can do better once the new arena is set and stone. We'll get more looks from top 50 candidates.

I'm excited Justin Jenifer's name was mentioned on here for scoring and passing. Hopefully he will be a solid backup to Caupain for his first year. Same goes for Evans behind Shaq

These aren't the final recruiting rankings. All 3 guys still have a season to play, they could move up, due to committing to UC they probably won't but could. We saw how Beasley blew up. Chad has said on here that due to politics Gary Clark was ranked lower than he should be, he stated Clark should have been in the 50's. Do you really think that the experts see every recruit in the nation? The most important thing is all players fill a need and they WANT to be bearcats.

Kilpatrick was reason enough not to listen to rankings

Nobody wants 4 year players anymore, let alone RS Seniors. Players that take 2-4 years to develop are ranked lower and those are the players Mick mainly targets for his system. Some targets blow up too much that we can't compete, but 99% of players we get are 3-4 year system guys.

Class rankings can be skewed by having a large class or landing one top recruit. This 2015 class is very good. They landed a true point guard in Jenifer (replaces graduating Guyn), a scoring wing in Evans (replacing graduating Sanders). I don't know enough about Tre Scott to comment but he will be an adequate 3/4 player a few years down the road.

Rankings mean nothing they are just numbers for fans to get excited about, look at Lawrence 5 star talent didn't do anything. I completely trust mick, and for you to say that "Were only 4th best in a mid major conference"- is one of the worst arguments ive hear in awhile. Being behind Memphis (one of the top recruiting powerhouses in the country, and being behind UConn (the defending national champions coached by arguable the best young coach in the country), and then behind SMU, coached by hall of fame and proven recruiter larry brown in nothing to be ashamed of especially in class with just 3 guys. Mick has talent on his roster, we are young in just 2013 we had a top 25 class. Im fully confident this program is a good condition and recruiting is fine

Looks like Chris Bains at Cincyontheprowl thinks he'll be redshirting next season. Makes sense to me with Mick's track record.

While he may be right in this instance, that guy (and everyone who writes on that blog) is entirely clueless about UC basketball...

BTW, just saw from Chad's write up that Scott averaged 22.3 points, 13.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.7 blocks a game last year. While I am not sure about his level of competition, it definitely shows how versatile he is!

Yeah if he is that versatile and more 3 than 4 then he would be competing for time between Shaq, Clark, Evans and Moore. We'll see I guess

Very good class for UC. Naysayers aside. They filled needs and ensured good players are in the pipeline while being able to focus on next seasons recruits early.

I'm not a fan of one and done players. I understand every program needs 2-3 future pros to win a national title. I think UC is doing things the right way right now.

Just based on the roster composition, I see Scott likely redshirting next year and getting limited PT two years from now. He will be a contributor his JR and SR years. I see the same for Strickland, who will be counted on more heavily after DeBerry and Ellis leave in two years.

Definitely. I like the class and the fact that 2015 is already wrapped up and they can focus on some key recruits for next year's class. Anyone know of any big time recruits we're eyeing?

I like the idea of a Scott redshirt next year. No need for 13 players. Plus, that would make him 2 years behind Clark. So if he is going to become anything as a JR, the path to playing time would be a little more clear.

I think you're way over-stating the impact of this arena. Do you honestly think a recruit walks into the Shoe and thinks to himself, "OMG, this arena is horrible." I think the Shoe is just fine to a player. Throw in the varsity village and Lindner center, weight room, rehab facilities, etc and we have a nice package to offer recruits. The Shoe isn't ugly. It's is still a fairly attractive arena. It certainly wouldn't drive away recruits. However, it does possibly drive away fans. But again, when our program was popular, we filled that horrible arena up and they made us buy football tickets to get our seats on top of it.

There's nothing terribly wrong with these recruits. They all sound like nice players. Do they sound like difference-makers/studs? Not really. They might be the missing piece to this puzzle that eventually gets us over the top. We'll see, but based solely on their ranking, they look about like all the other players we've been bringing in. Most on here seem to be very happy with that type of player and where the program is headed, so only time will tell.
