Love this. Keept the chip on your shoulder. I think Sean deserves more national attention. And some big performances in pig games will do just that.

"It will all be gone quickly," Cronin said. "There's certain teams in college basketball that if they lose it would take them four losses in a row and they'd still be ranked. If we were to lose one game we will disappear. I make sure our guys understand that."

This is EXACTLY what I was hoping their mentality was (coming into the Temple game)...because it is true with the media but more importantly Cincinnati fans. You have to keep the buzz going here for the fans to show up. You can't let your guard down for one second if you want to be a champ. When the fans show up it can help us win big games...when we win big games the media will eventually be on the same page.

I know NTS has been worried about the Temple game as a "trap" sort of game...but it sounds to me like (if we happen to lose...knock on wood) it won't be because we were looking past them.

I kind of disagree with him that they haven't gotten any respect. Other than Memphis and Pitt, they were expected to beat every team they've played during this winning streak. However, I love them having this mentality. They need to continue to think this way to compete with the big boys.

I guess I would agree here...they have definitely garnered some respect. But the over-riding theme is that we could lose that respect much quicker than say UK or OSU if we were to lose a bad game. Is that fair? IDK. If you build respect it shouldn't fall apart with a loss. OSU has lost 4 in a row...they had a LOT of national respect before the season and during the season. We started out with little respect (and I don't blame the media for this) but we are either deserving of our rank or we are not. One game could drop us big time where other programs would only drop them a little.

It's perception and often bias. It's up to UC to change that perception/bias. In a perfect world bias wouldn't exist...but I think we enjoyed some bias in the Huggins years so I can't be too offended.

Mick is right when he says people think UC doesn't have talent and one loss they will be forgotten. This is why OSU and Duke stay in the top 25. Look how long UNC stayed ranked. I believe UC should be ranked ahead of UK. I love the attitude they are bringing. Play with that chip and keep dominating on defense.

I agree as well. Our coach is stating we demand more respect and we are ranked #15 poised to move up again in the polls with another W tomorrow. It took a while to break in,but now where we should be.

We definitely will fall out of the polls with a loss or two and I know that is the point that he is making. I think the other point is he is trying to get Kilpatrick more press and it has definitely worked. Gary Harris who leads the B1G in scoring was left off the wooden list and you don't hear Izzo, Stauskas left off as well, nothing from Beilein.

I love Cronin standing up for respect I also feel that we are ranked accordingly and Kilpatrick being left off the wooden list is not the end of the world, he can always be added later. Oladipo was left off and went on to win it last year.

Another thing that WH said yesterday, and coupled with Whit out the door. Cronin's commitment to the University seems to be sinking in with the city. He is doing a great job, has us at 18-2 with the needle pointing up. He deserves to have 10K plus at the remaining games.

Good points. As far as respect goes let's re-examine. After the NM and X games it was going to take some rebuilding to get respect. We started doing that with Pitt and continued. We had no votes prior to SMU and Memphis week nor did we deserve any yet. After those games we moved up to just outside the top 25. One more week...two more wins and we were 19. One more week and two more wins we were 16.

In terms of respect that is a meteoric rise IMO. We still havne't played a lot of great teams...so I think I am content with where we are right now. I think the respect matches what we have done in other words. Do I think we deserve top 10 respect? No...not yet. I sure hope we get there though. If we beat Temple we might be right on the outside of top 10.

I think the point was "what do we need to do to have the same respect as those teams" where we get the benefit of the doubt when there's a loss. The answer was right. Keep winning and beat them. Until you do that consistently you live with one loss and a drop out of the polls while OSU loses 4 straight and remains in because of their success under Matta.

I think we had that type of repsect in the Huggins years and that was do to continuous winning and high NCAA seeds year in and year out.

This isn't rocket science. Put together some REALLY good years and the respect is back.

True at one point. UC was not respected in terms of the NCAA the last several years under Huggs. They were seen as a yearly disappointment and actually joked about nationally for their high seeds and first weekend flame outs.

Eleven games left and 6 of them are on the road. Home and aways left with Louisville and UConn and a road game at SMU. They will certainly earn what they get.

Counting the 20 games this season, over the past 5 years Mick Cronin is averaging 22 wins per season. This number will rise as this season progresses. The only losing seasons he has ever had are his first 2 at UC. Take away those first 2 seasons and he is 129-63 as head coach of UC thru this point in the current season. Bob Huggins was 152-45 in his last 6 full seasons as UC coach in CUSA. Considering the conference difference between CUSA and the BEast, by seasons end there will not be much difference between the two. Remembering the mess Cronin inherited and seeing these results, maybe it's easier to understand why people support this coach.

Great way to look at it. 92-33 since the start of the 2010 season. After going 24-38 in his first two seasons, who'd have guessed that?

Over the same time frame with WVU Huggs is 117-69 (Last 6 seasons including to this point in the current one) which is a better comparison since they both were coaching in power conference during this time frame.

I know this will probably open up the floodgates for a war, but I wonder where our program would stand today had we not fired Huggins. Would he still be here? My guess is we would've landed in trouble somewhere, definitely would've lost scholarships. I think he would've spiraled downhill quicker than he did. I think having to rebuild himself as a coach rejuvenated him for a few years. I don't think our program today would be as strong as it is with Cronin at the helm. If he were still here I think we would be mediocre. In reality I think something would've happened several years back to lead to him being gone and we would be in rebuilding mode now as opposed to five years ago.

Here's the problem...people can't appreciate the good years under him without looking realistically at the whole. The fact is after 1996 UC advanced to the second weekend of the NCAA once. The fact is the schools reputation was horrible. The fact is the grad rate was horrible (not as bad as advertised) but horrible. The fact is there were constant issues of players involved in off court issues and/or coaches. I think the success you see in the AAC under Cronin will be pretty close to our past CUSA success.

I loved Huggs but I thought his time had run it's course. It was time for a change, just not the way it went down. It harmed the program (no recruiting for 2 years) and he deserved better. But it was time for a change.

Completely agree. I was a student for Martin's four years and Huggs was the coach I grew up with, so I loved the heyday we had and 99% of that was due to Huggins. The second he was gone, well the second the next season started, I moved on from him and definitely didn't miss the downside he brought. Seeing how he is doing at West VirGINA compared to the success Cronin has built here I don't miss him at all.
