Yeah, I hope it is not Mick's intention to just recruit guys who can't shoot, who he can mold into great defensive players. I'm sure he is not doing that on purpose. I love watching great defense, but that style of play is obviously not attracting fans. Rubles does the grunt work about as good as anyone who has ever played here, but I haven't seen a single person wearing a Rubles jersey. We need some great offensive players who excite fans, who also play great defense. TC might be the start of that trend....KJ and JL also.
Go buy a Rubles jersey. Try talking the program up. You say you want the program to succeed but everything that comes out of your mouth says the opposite. MC providing a winner is the worst thing that can happen for you. You then have to change your tactic. He's winning but can he sustain it or we are alright but we need to continue. It took to long. Your the king of the backhanded compliment. You go to the games and buy tickets but you will never truly enjoy yourself until MC is fired. The more he wins the longer he stays. Here is something you may want to come to grips with. MC is winning and changing the culture. He will be here. Better learn to live with it. Please spare me all I want is a winning program BS. The program is winning and the guy is doing it on a shoestring. It has to annoy the heck out of you. You want a winning program but only if it is led my the person you approve of. Team is 17-2 with great kids and graduates its athletes and you can't say thank you because the style doesn't suit you or some other nonsense. Yes I know you have had season tickets since Jesus left Chicago in a hand basket. If your so unhappy save the money or support another team. I absolutely love the fact MC is over coming long odds and a fan base that hasn't accepted him from day 1. I love the underdog.

A couple things:

1. It is not just about who you put in the NBA as a head coach. That is part of it for sure. But, look at who Mick recruited who made the NBA. Assistants play a big role in coaching these kids too. D. Johnson, J Maxiell, F. Garcia just to name a few. I don't know if Mick was recruiting Kenyon, but he was here when Kenyon became the #1 player in the country. There is more to it than who you put in the NBA as a head coach. And, by the way, when Lance Stephenson becomes an NBA All-Star, Mick and his staff WILL get credit for "putting him in the NBA" from recruits. It's already happened with NY/NJ kids. Lance and SK have paved the way for guys like Shaq Thomas and Quadri Moore to look at UC as a viable option.

2. SK's age will hurt him in the NBA draft. He is 24. If he was 22 or even 23, it wouldn't be as big a deal. I could see someone either taking a flier on him in the second round or not being drafted. Regardless, he will get try outs with teams and it wouldn't surprise me to see him get an opportunity with someone. The kid is talented.

I could see the Spurs taking a look at SK. They like team oriented, hardworking, selfless types of players.

SK is also known as one of the hardest workers in college basketball, I think he will get a shot in the second round. I think he will end up overseas after bouncing around a little, I think he will be a great overseas player.

he wasn't heavily recruited out of HS. He'll leave here with a degree. He'll have the opportunity to make a living doing what he loves
Either overseas or in the League. He could also go into coaching? Either way he has used his time wisely. Great job SK.

That's a really good point. They also value guys that know how to play basketball compared to just athletic freaks. They did take Dejuan Blair I believe. I don't watch the Spurs enough to know how that worked out but I could see them taking a guy like SK who could spell Ginobli minutes right away.

This is well said. I think some teams who draft later in the rounds may be in a position to look for a guy who is stable. You know what you are getting with SK. His range is not an issue. His defense is not an issue. He can handle the ball well enough. His size at 6'4" is not an issue. His athleticism is good enough. He can finish around the rim with the best of them. He doesn't have the upside of a Lance Stephenson in my opinion but I think he can carve out a nice niche for himself in the league. And like you said, worst case scenario, he finds himself making a really nice living overseas with a degree and the ability to get into coaching down the road should he want to. The kid is humble and has a good head on his shoulders.

nobody roots harder for SK then me. That said if he makes the League I'd be shocked. Just doesn't have the handle. Hope I'm wrong because nothing would make me happier.

Waite, please don't start to get personal again. I know that is the common tactic in these forums when someone goes against the grain and you begin to lose the debate. But, the issues I raise are valid points. It doesn't mean that I am rooting against Mick Cronin. He is doing well, but he can do better. It's all about continuous improvement. If you're happy with where the program is today....congratulations! I want a lot more than we have today and I want it yesterday. And, I believe Mick Cronin wants it too. So, I will continue to support Mick and hope he continues to improve along with the program.

the only winning going on is by the team. I'm not in competition with you or anyone else. By the way I don't believe a word you just wrote and that isn't personal. Say is that seat next to you still open every night. I'll be there tonight and I don't want to sit on the bench seats.you can have any opinion you want. But it's been said by many people in the industry that cincy BB gets more respect outside the city then in the city. Your attitude is part of the problem. If that is by accident or design I don't know but it doesn't help the program that you say your a fan of.if you agree putting butts in the seats is important talking about what a great experience it is would be helpful. Of course filling the arena would only enhance Micks ability to retain his job.

Really don't care if you believe me or not. I support the program 110%. It's not called the University of Mick Cronin. The coach is fair game on a fan forum. You critiquing and bashing Ge'Lawn Guyn and JJ before him is no better or no different than me critiquing the coach. If you would support and compliment all players, we may get better recruits and we may start filling the arena. Please be as positive toward the student athletes in the future as you are towards the coach.

if it will help the program I will be glad eto. It's also not called the University of L-T. Well it looks like will both be turning over a new leaf. I'll be at the game tonight. I 'll buy you a soda. What say you?

Coach Cronin has SK's back. He posted this on his twitter...

"How is Sean Kilpatrick left off the Wooden list?? Very irresponsible by those involved. Look at his stats, his team, his impact. Disrespect!"

Could have used the American Conference 7 years ago. This whole situation could have been a hell of a lot smoother in this conference;)
yea transitioning to BE and cleaning up the mess was no easy task. MC seems to have turned the corner. Hopefully the fans will step up now.

Yeah. I just did some quick research going back to the 2011 draft (for whatever reason that is the one he decided to go with as a reference). Lottery picks are the first 14 picks --teams that didn't make the playoffs-- because they have balls in the draft lottery.

2011: 9/14 underclassmen/foreign
2012: 11/14
2013: 11/14

So in the past 3 years 74% of the lottery picks have been non upperclassmen. Which kind of reiterates the point I was making earlier. In terms of making an impression on a recruit, talking about lottery picks is probably the way to start when discussing the NBA.

I know what you are saying. My point is that you are talking about 9 or 10 players that are underclassmen lottery picks. There are 341 schools and 12 players on a team for 4,092 players. We are talking about .0002% of college players that are underclass lottery picks. That is stiff competition. In 2011 out of the 60 total players drafted 33 were upperclassmen. Many upperclassmen drafted in 12 and 13 as well. So yes many of the lottery picks are frosh and foreigners but of the other picks majority are upperclassmen.

Nothing says you can't coach players up and get them to the NBA that way. Recruiting players who are "Born Ready" is where we want to get, but "Square 1 & 2" players can be coached up too....ala Kenyon, Maxiell, Logan, Van Exel, Blount, etc. This is a "what comes first, the chicken or the egg" senario. You recruit, or create, exciting players and the fans will come, the jets will come, the new arena will come. Recruiting is easier than getting fans to come, or upgrading facilities, or use of jets....so I think it is the first step. To a recruit, I imagine the Shoe looks just fine. It doesn't have a dumpy appearance. It doesn't look old and outdated. A fan sees it differently. Plus, there is a lot more to facilities than just the arena. Our Lindner Center and Varsity Village are state of the art, and basketball players have access to all of those facilities.

To a recruit I bet they would rather play in a NBA arena than the Shoe. They would rather play at Fed Ex, MSG,Rupp, Phog, Cameron indoor or YUM over 5/3. How does Memphis continue to recruit at a high level, I bet the facilities and NBA arena have a lot to do with it.

Cameron indoor? NBA arena? Rupp is huge (and very old) but it isn't an NBA arena. Obviously there are nicer arenas than 5/3 but if 5/3 is packed it is a great place to be and recruits take notice.
