Once again, got the W. Remember SMU was coming off their worst loss in the history of the program. A lot of motivation to win, we missed some easy shots that we need to make if we want to do anything come tourney time. But we won another game in a tough environment, 23-4 I’ll take it.

The worst thing about that game is that Cronin probably thinks it was a thing of beauty 49 points for SMU - dream come true.

Mick will love it. The team couldnt buy a shot, but rebounded hard and won with defense despite the bad shooting. We all should love it too. He wont be happy with the offense but the team played hard and found a way to win on the road. The team is tired and this is a brutal stretch of the schedule. Could've easily been a loss, but the team scrapped for a road win. Not sure what the dig at Mick is for.

First things we do, we take the W. Then you take all of the film, stat sheets and any other rembrance of that game put it in a trash can, get a 5 gallon container of gasoline poor it over the trash can, buy a Roman candle, get as far away as you can, seek cover, then shoot said Roman candle at trash can until a mushroom cloud forms.

Somebody been watching joe dirt lol

Thank you

Up to the 2:32 mark in the second half we beat them 22-9. Held them to nine points in 17 and a half minutes. At their home, that’s dominating defense. We missed a lot of shots I think we normally hit. And Cumberland was a non factor most of the game. This game could have been really ugly. Either way, just glad we got another win, on to Memphis

Joke dude. Chill. Mick’s a mean little defense chihuahua. Give him his props.

Brooks and Scott for 21 rebounds was awesome! Defense tonight was great.

They were 5 of 20 shooting. I think turnovers saved it from being worse. This coming after a recent 2 for 14 outing between them. That was Offensive.

Cumberland deferring most of the game didn’t help. It almost seemed purposeful if I didn’t know any better... and I don’t.

C-land is getting routed by the refs. D against him is allowed to be to physical and they call offensive fouls on him when guys flop. Meanwhile mcmurry and mike push off on every drive.

I agree on fouling but he wasn’t even attempting to make plays he normally would. Fortunately he found some desire at the end

3 of our first 4 made buckets were 3-pointers and then our final points of the half came from beyond the arc as well with just over 3 minutes to go. We didn't make a 3 for the rest of the game.

It's not much to dwell on, but it's still fairly remarkable we can shoot so poorly and still win games on the road against near top 100 competition.

Free Throw Shooting

I know we've had some obvious offensive struggles all season outside of JC, especially the past few games, however, I'm extremely impressed by this teams FT shooting the past few games.

UCF - 91.7% (11-12)
UCONN - 93.8% (15-16)
SMU - 93.3% (14-15)
TOTAL - 93.0% (40-43)

Those numbers are extremely impressive and we likely do not win these games without it. If we can continue to hit FT's going into tourney time (obviously not going to be sustainable at >90%), it's going to make us an even tougher out with how we're able to defend and if we can get really anything going on the offensive end outside of JC & KW. The best thing about this team is they have shown the ability to win in a number of different ways. Extremely resilient group.

I think 3 of their 5 makes were dunks. There were a few more times they should have went for dunks and didn't. I would rather see them get a ball shoved back down their throat on a dunk attempt. They will have a chance to get fouled or make the dunk. 2 of those 3 things are a good outcome.

Cronin needs to drill that into their head immediately. I really don't have much problem with either of them taking an uncontested mid range shot. They both have a decent shooting touch...but they both are abysmal when they think they have to hurry anywhere on the court. They either fake when they shouldn't or the don't fake when they should. Their timing around the basket is awful. In practice we need to have them go 1 on 2 against Diara and Nsoseme until they understand how to make plays around the basket.

I want to end this on a positive. They really cleaned house on the boards and the defense last night was probably the best of the year. Unfortunately we had our worst offensive game of the year to go with it. We won but we gotta get these two some work under the basket.

That was not a fun game to watch.

But, I knew it would be tough. Ugly ugly ugly. But a win on the road doesn't have to be pretty. It highlighted some serious concerns for the rest of the season:

1) Our bigs continue to struggle putting the ball in the basket from 1 foot out. They are not strong with the ball at all. It's embarrassing at this point.

2) Cumberland is in a longer funk then I expected. This has me concerned.

The goods to come out:

1) Those same bigs are really crashing the boards and playing some terrific D.

2) The Bearcats continue to step up at the end of game and make plays

3) Free throw shooting has become an advantage for us.

FT's have saved our butts 3 games in a row. You are right that is not sustainable but it's still awesome to see that type of % from them...especially in clutch moments.

We shot 26% and still won, that is amazing and embarrassing at the same time. Either way I guess a win is a win.

Cheers to 24 wins boys.

I don't think Cumberland is getting fouled any more, without getting calls, than any typical college basketball player. He has faced some physical defense, but so has every Bearcat opponent the past 30 years. If we want Cumberland to go to the line every time someone breathes on him, then we should also want him to foul out in the first half every night. Fair is fair.

He is playing pretty poorly the past few games. It is what it is. Last night, he missed several fairly easy attempts in the paint. This has been a problem all year - he has shot better from beyond the arc than inside it. Teams have figured this out, and are basically daring him to beat them off the dribble because even when he does, he just misses a floater or a layup. When he starts hitting those shots, he will get more room on the perimeter.

I don't think you've been watching off the ball enough. Teams are definitely being much more physical with him. The good news is those seem to be called more often in tournament play.
