Honestly, we cannot play well in March with this type of efficiency from our starting PG. He holds the keys to a great finish. We have a great supporting cast...but he's the engine that makes it all run.[/b,]

Completely agree. But it's tricky bc he IS the guy that makes us go...BUT that doesn't mean it all has to be on his plate. I mean he's averaging 9.5 PPG for his career, and barely over that this year. We don't need the engine to mean he has to score 20 and control the game. He just needs to facilitate and get his guys the looks they need, and take his shots when they're there. Less is more sometimes. He just needs to play the game. I'd like to see less set plays in the USF game. Just go out and bury them open court style and get some of our offensive swagger back. We've scored 60 or less in 3 of 4...but have scored 82+ in 3 of 6. Really weird splits, but probably not a coincidence all 3 of the games of 82+ were at home. Gotta find a way to get that ball through that hoop thing on the road.

Wow in Stugotz weekend observations he claims the Cincinnati Bearcats come March will be a handful.

Yeah WOW!! What an ass**** saying we could be trouble for some teams in march. Despite what you think were actually pretty good buddy

The first bolded part is precisely why I'm so confused about him losing confidence after 1 missed shot.

The second part...mskes me nervous. A lot of the time in the past few years, Caupain "being assertive", "taking over", what have you, has led to the rock fights. The last thing I want to see is him being the only one with the ball all game. He's obviously going to have it the most, but he's not a dynamic playmaker. And having the extra help this year is what's for the most part kept us out of the possession-by-posdession type games for the full 40 minutes. His default setting and natural instinct is to go slower. He can't slip back into that full-time down the stretch.

Yeah, I should have added the (***if necessary***) tagline to that second part. I certainly don't want it to be the Troy show in March but yesterday we needed him to step up and he didn't. I think come March, if we're in that same situation, he will be ready.

I would agree that we don't have to change much about how we play. I've seen a disturbing trend in many recent games of us falling in love with the 3, that needs to stop. IMO the UConn game was one of the better offensive games we've played to date, I know that Mick was critical of the deflections after that game but I loved what we did on offense.

LMAO. I thought it was a typo but then I realized you really were citing ECU's KenPom numbers. Too funny.

I have a tendency of getting the entire bottom-half of our conference mixed up. They've all morphed into one garbage team in my mind where I expect UC to win by 20+.

Lol. Omg. Could you be any more insecure? I personally read that as him being surprised someone nationally would be talking about us...don't want to speak for the_one_32 though.

He was ripping them during the SMU game, wasn't just some random poster. But sure lol

Hopefully this is a fast-paced game. South Florida ranks 155 in AdjT. We better get out on the run and get some easy baskets.

I wonder if Troy will still be checked out. I can't believe I'm questioning the mental moxy of our senior PG. Hopefully we see him be aggressive but for some reason, I don't think we will.

If he shoots 35% from behind the arc I will be happy. Don't think at this stage he will be turning into a quick, drive and dish PG. He is what he is. Take care of the ball and knock down some open 3's.

This is a concerning development with Troy. "Checked out" is not a bad way to describe it. We need his focus and his enthusiasm to make a run. I hope his mental issues aren't of a personal nature and it has more to do with confidence on the court. One of those can be changed with a single good game...the other who knows.

More than any player I would like to see Troy's career end on a high note at UC. He's been a positive staple in our lineup for too long for fans not to want good things to happen for him. It would be nice to see KJ play well down the stretch as well for similar reasons. The other players will get another shot next year...but these two have only a small amount of games left in their careers to leave a lasting impression.

One of the best ways to change your shooting woes on the road is to get closer to the bucket. As Cronin has said...seeing layups go in or some foul shots can give you the confidence to make some outside shots. We should press the issue early in road games to get the ball down low or make some drives. After seeing some balls go through the basket we can gradually move it out to take those deep shots.

Of course the defense will try to take our inside shots away...but we should bully our way in there if we have to. Even if they are highly contested I can deal with a couple of blocks since we will likely pick up some fouls and get a few easy buckets here and there. Kyle and Gary can handle it. We need Caupain and Evans to put their shoulder down and go to the bucket whenever possible.

In almost 2 years if Evans and 4 years of TC neither has demonstrated a consistent ability to beat their man off the bounce and get to the rim. Evans has the time to improve but TC is who he is. Next year when Broome is the PG Evans will be a much more effective slasher and scorer. As long as we rebound the ball next year our pace will quicken. Of course I suspect our turn overs will go up with the faster pace.

All TC has to do to be effective is take care of the ball. distribute it to our scorers and knock down 3's at his career %.

I can agree with you about Evans. Our go to play in close games last year was to clear out and let Troy put his shoulder down and go to the bucket on a one way course. He's not going to break any ankles with dirty crossovers but he was somewhat effective at getting to the rack with his signature straight line drive.

Even this year against Tulsa it worked at the end. I think it would be good to let him do this every once in a while even when the game is not on the line. We have the inside out game we can go to but this adds another dimension to our team. Starting Evans at the top of the key and having him make one move and go to the rack would potentially get even better results than Troy but we haven't really tried it. We continue to let Evans try fancy dribble moves from the wing only to get stymied (ala Thomas) and pass the ball to someone else.

These guys aren't Jordan so we need to simplify the plan for them. Make one move and go!
