What Butler has in Brad Stevens and Syracuse has in Jim Beheim, an alum who wants to be where he is, UC has in Mick Cronin. Mick is a Bearcat through and through, he would not leave UC for big dollars somewhere else. UC is Mick's dream job. UC should sign Mick to a 10 year extension to tell the world of recruits that Mick will be here a long, long, time.

No way. "If" the Louisville job opened, I guarantee you that Mick would try to get it. So how does that make UC his dream job?

Plus the difference between Stevens, Boeheim, and Cronin is that Stevens and Boeheim are proven winners.

Lets see if Mick can get us to the top of the big east before we try to lock him up for the next decade.

I disagree. Mick just spent two years there, I really doubt he fell in love the city that much in that short of time. He left once for an assistant job but that is in hopes of getting a head coaching job which he did.

Completely disagree.

I don't see MC leaving for Louisville, nor do I think he has proven himself to even be in the running to get it. That could change 3 years from now, but...

Agreed.

But in the event Mick pulls a rabbit out of the hat and he becomes the new Brad Stevens, Ricky P leaves UL, Mick would be foolish not to go to UL. They have a brand new facility, lots of tradition and a lot more $$$$$ to pay him.

Cronin is a Bearcat. If afforded the opportunity, he will always be a Bearcat.

UH OH!

Seriously though, just because he is a bearcat at heart, doesn't mean he should automatically be given a 10 year contract. You think if Stevens came out and coached horribly the first 3 years, that they would reward him because he is a Butler guy? No. They rewarded him because he has done well, being a Butler guys has nothing to do with the 12 year contract offer.

Cmon KCourt, you should know by now that Ralphy cant comprehend logic.

Exactly Kingsley court--A lot of my buddies are going to be graduating UC after this year...think we should hire them as assistants? They are UC guys after all.

The 12 year extension means nothing anyways. Look at Xavier--Sean Miller signs a 10 year extension and the very next year he is coaching at Arizona.

That sounded very Ralph-esque. :D

please don't ever say that again!

seriously though, Cronin was born and raised in Cincinnati. He grew up loving UC. He graduated from UC. It was his dream to coach UC. I doubt he would ever go somewhere else unless he was forced to.

Completely disagree.

Better job: Louisville
Better facilities: Lousiville
Better tradition: Louisville

The only reason you guys think Mick will stay is because he's from cincinnati? If he cared so much about the city he wouldn't have turned his back on Huggins and Cincy to go to a rival school.

Ralph, Hell, it would be my "dream job" to coach at UC, does that mean I should get a 10 year contract? :)

He has been afforded that opportunity. Win and he can be a Bearcat for as long as he wants. It's up to him.

And I don't think Mick goes anywhere unless he is told to leave.

You want to rehash this again? He didn't turn his back on UC and Huggins. At the time he left, NO ONE that had been associated with Huggins had ascended to a head coaching position. The Huggins coaching tree was bare. Pitino made him an offer he couldn't refuse, and an opportunity to eventually become a head coach at the Division 1 level. He didn't seek out Pitino looking to leave UC, rather Pitino sought him out. This has been well documented. He did what any of us would have done. That is, what's best for us and our family. If you can't understand this, then there isn't much more to discuss.

Not only that, AK couldn't even get a job at Louisiana-Monroe when he was under Huggins. I remember Cronin saying that he had talked to AD's and they told him if you ever wanted to be a head coach, you better be an assistant under someone else. To this day I can't think of one coach that took a head coaching position while working under Huggins.

Cronin will never leave UC of his own free will (other than retirement)... it is in fact his dream job... this is pretty simple folks... you can argue whether or not he belongs here or if he'll last or if he'll actually turn UC back into a national power, but unless he retires or is fired (forced to resign) he will be the head coach at UC...

Stevens turned down $3,000,000 a year from Nike (Oregon), Mick is at his dream job and would not go to Louisville. The only reason he went there as an assistant was to get away from Huggins so he could get a head coaching job somewhere. Pitino offered him twice the money he would make at Murray State to stay at Louisville as Rick's # 1 recruiter and he turned that down.
