Stevens signs 12 year deal

Stevens turned down $3,000,000 a year from Nike (Oregon), Mick is at his dream job and would not go to Louisville. The only reason he went there as an assistant was to get away from Huggins so he could get a head coaching job somewhere. Pitino offered him twice the money he would make at Murray State to stay at Louisville as Rick's # 1 recruiter and he turned that down.

Listen im a mick supporter, i just disagree with a 10 year contract. 10 year contracts should be used for proven winners (Boeheim, Coach K, ect.) or for up and coming winners (Thad Matta, Brad Stevens).

The bold is false, do your research though.

anyone who actually takes what Ralph1950 says seriously and take the time to argue with him is a fool. There is a thing on the internet called a troll, he has no opinion he simply posts to rile people up. Just stop replying to what he says....

You want to rehash this again? He didn't turn his back on UC and Huggins. At the time he left, NO ONE that had been associated with Huggins had ascended to a head coaching position. The Huggins coaching tree was bare. Pitino made him an offer he couldn't refuse, and an opportunity to eventually become a head coach at the Division 1 level. He didn't seek out Pitino looking to leave UC, rather Pitino sought him out. This has been well documented. He did what any of us would have done. That is, what's best for us and our family. If you can't understand this, then there isn't much more to discuss.

Exactly!

He did it once, who's to say he won't do it again?

I believe you can call that turning your back.

You are dead wrong. Ralph supports the program with his heart and his wallet. He went to the end of the year basketball awards and likely has been doing so for many years. How many others on this site did. You may disagree with what he says but the majority of the time he is spot on. He is not a troll, and supports UC unconditionally. I would rather have a hundred Ralphs on this site than any one of the negative posters who do nothing but tear the program down.

Seriously??? Cronin has his dream job. How many other dream jobs do you think he has. As far as leaving UC for Louisville, if you had a chance to better your and your family's future, would you take it. Or would you stay at a dead end position with little likelihood of acheiving your dreams. Anyone who questions why Cronin left is being hypocritical.

As an aside, why do you think Dan Peters left Huggins to go to O$U? He was supposed to be Huggins best friend and if I remember correctly, the best man at his wedding. That should tell you something about what his assistants felt was their future when connected to Huggins.

While I'm not saying your wrong- Id love to see an article saying Oregon offered him 3,000,000 a year. I have not heard anything about that and would be interested in some facts.

The Oregon offer was actually $17.5 million for 7 years. A mere $2.5 million a season before incentives.

moronic statement. Ralph is wrong all the time . Hard to believe any one would think as he does. I want UC to win and go in the right direction. I do not support stupidity.

Sure you do. Re-read your post. Stupidity is to act like a spoiled child and constantly post negative comments. You think you are the only one that want's UC to win. How about supporting the program and whoever the current coach may be. That will get us closer to the promised land than the drivel you constantly spew.

Ralphy and lumberjack are the same, yet polar opposites.. Their posts nearly always bring nothing to the table. Ralphy has some wisdom, that he blows out of proportion beyond belief. Lumberjack is a bitter poster who has never said one thing positive.

You are making my point there bud. Dream job or not, it is ALL about the money. Somone offers him a better contract (HIGHLY UNLIKELY), cya Mick.

Does that make Cronin unique? Almost every coach would leave for an offer they couldn't refuse. Hell, any of us would leave our currrent job for an offer we couldn't refuse. But you make it out like if there was a lateral move available, Mick would jump at the opportunity. The louisville assistant head coaching job was not a lateral opportunity. It was an opportunity that almost every assistant in college basketball wouldn't refuse. Especially if they were working for someone who had almost never placed their assistants into a head coaching position (almost because Larry Harrison had a head coaching job but failed miserably). I am not making your point, rather contradicting it.

please don't ever say that again!

seriously though, Cronin was born and raised in Cincinnati. He grew up loving UC. He graduated from UC. It was his dream to coach UC. I doubt he would ever go somewhere else unless he was forced to.

To me, it's just one of several factors. I agree that this is his dream job and he would like to stay for life, if afforded that opportunity. The key question is would the university want him for life ? To me, if he consistently is in the top half of the BE, wins it every so often, makes the NCAA (old style) 4 out of every 5 years, brings in kids that work hard in and out of class and don't embarrass the university, then yes, I would want to sign him to a long term contract.

I disagree - partially. In Sunday's Enquirer, there was an article about Kerry Coombs (sp?) and he stayed at UC even though he could have gotten bigger bucks following Kelly to ND. I think a lot of people will go just for the bucks, but I don't think that's true across the board.

You are confusing yourself here. Aruging just to argue.

The statement was made that if UofL offered Cronin he would leave. Posters said noway, he is too loyal to the program. I mentioned he left once for UofL, cause of money, opportunily to climb the ladder or what not. Why would he not do it again? and you are agreeing with that.

Admit it, I am a genius!:D

because he left in order to get a head coaching job, which was/is his ultimate goal...he has that now.

If someone offers him a bigger contract, UC is going to have a tough time matching that. You are saying he will turn down an extra mil?

Most likely this would not happen, as Mick has not exactly turned heads outside of Cinci.

What else would you like us to talk about BearcatAlum...the weather.
Maybe the Commandos!
