How tall was Jason Maxiell 6'7"? In my opinion playing center is more of a mind set than physical attributes. If your are 6'7" or taller and have the right mind set you can play center at a high level.
Guyn could play center if Mick wanted him to. Did we when with 6'6-6'8 centers?

Justin Jackson did just fine last season playing center at 6'8".

justin Jackson could jump out of the gym along with mad max. Moore doesn't have half of that natural ability those two had. Moore looks like he is in slow motion in his film. Don't want to sound negative just calling it how I see it.

It's a tough comparison to make (JJ & Moore). Moore's not going to have the athleticism that JJ brought but will probably be a more polished player with much more range and diverse skill set.

I'm excited about our frontline. DeBerry, Strickland, Moore, JL, and Clark are going to give Mick a lot of options and create mismatches for other teams. That being said, 3 of the guys are freshman (I'm throwing Strickland in that group since he didn't practice with the team). It's hard to count on or predict production from freshman.

If Deberry is not in shape Strickland will start at the 5.
I can agree with that but I would be very surprised if a player with 2 years of elgibilty, who should have aspirations of playing professionally would show up out of shape. If he does we absolutely missed on his recruitment. He should be living at the Gym. I'll even go a step further he should be working with a professional trainer to ensure conditioning is not a issue.

Guys we were fine in the post last year playing undersized because our schedule wasn't packed with big post players. The couple of times we did play teams with a good inside presence we got waxed. New Mexico hammered us and X's bigs were a problem for us as well. Mick was also very adept at utilizing his players to guard multiple positions. While we have improved our size in the post this year I think our big challenge next year will be defensively. Improving our offense is important but defensively we will need to be just as stingy as last year. The guy who starts in the paint for us will need to anchor the defense and erase mistakes as both Rubles and JJ did on multiple occasions.

I don't see DeBerry being better than Big Dave. I'm praying Strickland is ready.

You and I are better than Big Dave. Big DAve cant bend over to grab the ball or run the floor. If Deberry can do these simple things expected of a post man, he is already going to get more playing time than dave

based on what?

my thoughts exactly. The guy had great field goal percentages. And even for it being JUCO we know he makes his layups---Our 2 big men this year were not offensive minded big men at all ( and dont get me wrong I love JJ and Rubles, but their offense was not very good and their layup making was worse) When A guy comes in as a big huge body and a soft touch around the rim, I dont see how you can be anything but excited about him. Juco or not

wow that's how I feel about Strickland haha

DeBerry is a top-rated juco and Strickland was invited to play on a national team the summer before coming here. Dave was given a scholarship because we had one to burn and his NAIA school cancelled its basketball program. He was 7'2 and worth a chance. He didn't play for a reason. We really think with the recruiting trending up that Mick would bring in two dogs at the same position? These guys have never played and we are relegating them to being worthless?

This is video of Deberry in his Junior year of high school. so 4 years ago. And you have to think 4 years later and 2 years of JUCO has only improved his game

First 2 1/2 minutes is blocked shots. He really knows how to get into and claim his spot on the block on both offense and defense

Which one is an above the rim type Guy?

I would say neither. Both are big bodies that know how to control the block. Deberry looks very good at getting in position on D to either block or interfere with a shot.

Yancy wasnt an above the rim guy and I see Deberry being a yancy type player. Very strong with a soft touch around the rim

does any of big men coming next year have high motor?

These bigs coming in are definitely more of the Yancy Gates/Danny Fortson variety than the Kenyon Martin/Justin Jackson mold, physically speaking anyway. Moore is the only one I've heard any concerns about with his motor, but he's a good kid by all accounts.
