Tennessee offensive line is humongous, Bearcats got no pressure on QB. On side kick was game changer. Bearcats failure to convert two 4th and inches and 1st and goal were game killers. On another note, Who Dey and how about them Wolverines!
The onside kick was a killer. I think it kept our defense tired and we never really caught our breath. I found it a very interesting call on the Vols part. Kind of interesting that an SEC team at home needs to use trickery to gain an advantage over a Big East team. I guess it shows they respected our offensive threat enough to say they needed that advantage. Whatever it was it worked.
I have a very hard time watching this team play defense. I realize we have mismatches in the pass coverage, but what is the logic in playing ten yards off the line of scrimmage and just giving them the eight-nine yard pass on every possession? At some point we need to at least try to let our guys go one-on-one with their receivers and see if we can't make some plays. If we get beat then adjust accordingly, but it just seems we're content to let you march down the field with short passes and not even try to stop it.
It was a tough loss, but at the end of the day you lost a non-conference game on the road to a better opponent. Swallow the loss, learn from the mistakes and take care of business in the conference.
The defensive staff has gotta go after this season.
