Help Support BearcatTalk:

So I decided to see where Gary ranks in various stats across the AAC; he is almost in ever stat category:

FT%: 9th
Off rebounds: 1st
Def Rebunds: 2nd
Total Rebounds: 1st (Has a 25 rebound cushion over 2nd place)
Steals: 7th
Blocks: 7th
Points: 14th
PPG: 15th
RPG: 1st
PER: 1st ( a 4 point cushion over 2nd place)
True shooting %: 6th
Off Reb%: 2nd
Def Reb %: 2nd
Rebound %: 1st
Steal %: 5th
Block %: 6th
TO%: 4th
Points Produced: 12th
Offensive Rating: 1st
Defensive Rating: 1st
Offensive Win Shares: 3rd
Defensive Win Shares: 1st
Win Share: 1st
Win shares per 40: 1st
Offensive Box Plus/Minus: 2nd
Defensive Box Plus/Minus: 1st
Box Plus/Minus: 1st (4 point lead over Jacob Evans)

And he is doing it on the best team in the conference; He is the player of the year in my book.

If he isn't AAC POY it will be a crime.

Great Story!!!!! I am not surprised by Gary's action. Mick has often stated what a truly wonderful person Gary is. That fact we have been lucky to have him in our lives for 4 years is a Blessing.

@American_MBB
Congrats to @GoBearcatsMBB's Gary Clark and @GoShockersMBB's Landry Shamet - among the 30 players named to the late season team competing to receive the 50th Citizen @NaismithTrophy!

I know Gary is a 4 year guy and likely our most valuable player. He deserves a lot of credit and he is definitely a fan favorite...no question!

I would just like to take a moment and appreciate guys like Evans, Washington and Cumberland.

Evans is a do it all guy like Clark. All business all the time. Points, assists, FT's, rebounds. blocks, steals, lock down D, some PG duties, last second shots. I mean you name it and he does it. Clearly a first team all AAC guy right now IMO. As Jacob mentioned also does some coaching on the floor.

Washington has really started to improve his deficiencies and choice making. But he's a team leader, efficient scorer, team speaker, motivator, blocks shots, etc. He can make outside shots and his FT's are pretty good. He can rebound when he gets after it. He's invaluable to the team in terms of chemistry/motivation/determination.

Cumberland is another all around guy who isn't as blessed with the athletic ability of Evans or Clark on D but he does it all too. Points, rebounds, assists, steals, very good D, plays smart etc etc. IMO he is the best passer on the team. His D is vastly underrated. His BB IQ and instincts are off the charts. He makes a lot of plays that go un-noticed.

I don't want to leave out guys like Jenifer, Broome, Moore, Brooks, Scott etc but these guys above are indispensable IMO. These 3 probably each deserve a thread like the Clark thread...but I think it's okay to put it here.

Gary Clark is and will most likely be my favorite Bearcat of all time, if you are going to the game today give him a good send off!

Ever since I took my son (2.5 yrs old) to the Savannah State game this year, he will randomly shout "Go UC", "Go Bearcats", or "Gary Clark." It's pretty awesome. I thought that if this video belonged anywhere, it belongs here...

Thanks Mick

I am very proud of the character of many of the Bearcat players...I haven't always been able to say that - Gargantuan kudos to Mick Cronin & staff for recruiting the high level of character and integrity type of player that we see on a regular basis now

Didn't think that I could love Gary Clark anymore than I already do but in this postgame interview he explains how he was able to calm down to sink the game winning freethrow today....he looked up and saw a look on his mother's face: "I haven't seen this look since I was like 7 or 8 where she looked like she was going to run out on the court at me so I was able to calm down a little bit and focus and knock down the last shot."

So great! Once again a demonstration that he's a high character guy.

Gary Clark is a humble guy. This is what makes him such a great person and basketball player. In the post game interview with Jim Nance he thanked God and his teammates for his MVP award. It is so refreshing to see a young man who has zero selfishness to his game or how he carries himself. His parents can be proud they raised a wonderful kid.
