The Wes Miller Era

Koval was already a grad transfer, so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't use the bonus year. If he does and comes here, I can deal with it. He's just a one year rental guy and somewhat more athletic than Vogt (though not athletic enough for the AAC). My biggest nightmare material may be Lakhin, but will wait to see how he looks on the court (if he even stays on the team) and how much he plays before I worry too much.

Koval announced a few weeks ago that he was returning for a 5th year (to UNCG) so now it just comes down to whether he wants to transfer or not.

I wouldn't mind him as a 1-year rental either as long as we load the front court with a few more athletic and physical bigs.

This is encouraging to me. Based on their terrible assist numbers, I assumed poor shooting was due to bad offensive schemes. But if they are getting open looks and just missing them, better players alone should go a long way to better offensive efficiency.

Yeah, they aren't as bad as they look on paper I think. More down to not having shooters.

Although they do also take a fair number of bad early threes as well (DDJ walk it down the court and jack it up style). Which is just poor shot selection and something a good coach should be able to correct.

What are the expectations for Miller over the next 5 years?
I don't have specific results oriented expectations. In the first couple years, I want to see evidence that he is building a team that will be top 25 caliber. I don't mind a couple down years here and there, but I want to always feel like we have top 25 potential the next season. Ideally I prefer modern basketball schemes, but there are many different styles that can win in college basketball. I want to see him recruit and coach to a winning style.

Truth be told that shot is probably higher value than almost all midrange shots.

I’m not waiting 3/4 years to get NCAA tournament. Lil Paul and Rayvon not coming here for that. Gentlemen Lil P more likely 3/4 all conference type player and rayvon would be preseason first team conference as freshman. Darryn Peterson will be one and done if not straight nba. We have get 2/3

You don't consult potential recruits on your coaching selection, you just don't.

Teams hire recruits handlers every day all day. Are you serious saying you wouldn’t called up Taft and Woodward see what they star players thought. Lil P was seen posted with UC players, you honestly believe coming UC wasn’t topic of discussion

I'll adjust my expectations as far as wins and losses go from year to year. What I'll be following the closest these first couple of years is recruiting.

Can this dude recruit top 200 kids? Can he build out his staff with coaches that can get in the door nd attract major talent?

My biggest questions surrounding this guy is why his entire coaching career has been at such a low level. If Roy Williams loves him so much why didn't he put him on his staff between his stops as an assistant at Elon, High Point and UNCG?

Why has has been stuck at UNCG for 10 years? I don't buy because he wanted the UNC job. They could have hired him away from anywhere. And he probably wouldn't have had a better shot at it had he left UNCG and proven himself elsewhere.

I will say this, like it not, if he doesn't have this team at 20 wins by year 3 at the latest then this basketball program will suffer. I hope they chose someone they expect can get this up and running quickly. Because that 5 1/2 year rebuild he did at UNCG aint going to cut it here.

Welcome to AAU ball at UC. Open roster he should be able get at least 7-8 players to fit his system starting out. Now we need UA change our logo. We need big ass Cpaw on front of team gear

We know, you say this every day. Wes Miller is the coach now. This is the thread for discussing him.

McMillan most definitely part of Miller era. If he doesn’t land McMillan or rayvon UC basketball might never be same. Not because they some generational talents, the fan base is fragile right now. We can’t survive another oj/Beasley/bill situation.

I think I kinda have higher expectations for him right away too. Only because the portal is what it is. There are more than enough parts out there to piece together a roster that can at least be a little competitive next year.

I don't expect any of our guys back. Just seems like once they go into the portal they plan to leave no matter who our coach is.

Gladly take Mason Mike and Tari back. Really wanted Harvey though

Mason is following Miller now FWIW, I know it usually doesn't mean anything.. But Mason has a legit shot to play a lot this year and he would be making a lateral move or a go to a lower level school if he leaves. I think New Mexico and St Louis were his two biggest ones
