First let me say this, nothing irks me more than having to motivate players. I simply dont get it. Mick nailed the post game with his thoughts on the issue.

Now onto brilliant insights that will enlighten you all.
- Cash played poor. With that being said, this team runs so much better with a true PG in the game playing. Makes you wonder what happened to Parker!?

- With as frustrating as Justin played today, I was OK with his performance. I believe he got to many minutes personally. Although im not sure what Darnell brings anymore? Didnt he used to be able to shoot decent!?

- Yancy played a solid game imo. He is SO much more effective when he gets the ball and go, his delay at times is ridiculous.

- Rashad seemed to be the only one ready to goo today (as always). Unfortunately he got hurt and couldnt play for some time.

- UC has not been good on Sunday games in a long time.

- With Uconn shooting an absurd % from deep, why not look to make them run sets in a half court game?! I understand pressing has gotten UC going, but it also left them some open threes.

- Micks postgame was excellent.

- We need to win 1 of the next 2 to be sure.

Well said LL. Cronin took the blame for not motivating them enough, but that is just bull. Unless he threw them a party last night and kept them out late, he is not at fault. Players have to want to play. Cronin can't hold their hands and give them lollipops if they play well. We have two more games, get it done.

I agree. Cronin seems to have learned from previous mistakes. Everything he said I had to agree with. Placed responsibility where it belonged. Still was a long ride home thoughl

wilks was arguably our best spot shooter last year. he usually hit and he took good shots. this year he is a guaranteed miss when he lets it go.

I dont understand it!? how is that remotely possible...

With that being said, how could parker have gotten worse to the point where het gets zero minutes a game.

I thought Mick would throw the zone at them a few times to shut down the 3-point attempts. Not exclusively, mind you, but just to help the Cats stay close. By cutting UCONN's attempts at 3's, you keep the game a lot closer.

The zone doesn't work against teams that can shoot the 3... You get a lot more open looks from deep against a zone than against man-to-man.

Mick took the blame but he was shielding his guys. You shouldn't have to motivate a team playing for what these guys are playing for.

I think Yancy has been really good the last 4 games. He's unstoppable when he gets the ball and attacks.

The guards were so unmotivated on the perimeter I'm not sure any D would have made a difference.

One thing you get from JJ is effort. That was rare yesterday so you have to leave a guy like that in. He's going to be really good.

When the guards play like they did yesterday I really wonder why Mick doesn't play Parker. JP isn't spectacular but he is solid. He rebounds well and doesn't take chances. Just don't get it.

UConn isn't typically a good shooting team from 3. They are 12th in the conference. Georgetown was 11th and the zone worked great against them. Count me in the very surprised he didn't throw a zone at them camp.

My quote was in response to the poster saying that he was surprised that Mick didn't go to the zone to shut down UConn's 3s. I was just merely pointing out that the zone is not meant to shut down 3s, but to force teams to beat you from behind the arc. I was surprised that he didn't come out in it from the start because of how well the zone defense worked against Georgetown and because UConn had not shot well from deep this year, but I don't fault him for not going to it later in the game seeing as UConn was making everything from deep.

The overall defense wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. People were still pestering the ball and forcing them into some questionable shots. The turning point was when Bishop went down. Without him, no one could guard Kemba and he went off for 7 or so quick points once we had to switch Rashad off of him. At that point, the UConn's lead had been built and we just traded points for the rest of the game.

This is a group that hasn't experienced success. They are getting a taste of it and they aren't handling it well. Twenty wins was a milestone, Nine Big East wins is a milestone. They are learning how to win and how to handle it as they go. I don't excuse it but I can see the elements that feed it.

I was disappointed with almost everyone yesterday with the exception of Yancy and JJ. JJ made some mistakes but he also made some huge hustle plays. I can accept mistakes if it comes from someone hustling. Outside of the pass at the end of the game that was stolen, Yancy was good yesterday.

I was most impressed with the crowd. While not a sell out, that crowd gave a lot of energy to the building yesterday. I have not been in the Shoe when it was like that since I graduated (2004). I felt the defense really let this team down. They were a step slow and a dollar short. The UCONN shooters got into such a rhythm that it didn't matter if there was a hand in their face. Too many open looks, too early and nearly all of them went in.

The one thing with Yancy that continues to annoy me is that he doesn't have a drop step, he insists on turning into the middle of the defense where another defender or two are waiting on him. If he'd develop a drop step he would be unstoppable. I quit counting yesterday how many times he turned to the middle into more defense when if he had drop stepped he would have had a dunk or at least a layup or gotten fouled from behind. Yes he had a good game, I'm not complaining about that, just that the fundamentals still aren't there for him. But even without them he is performing well.

I thought that Parker had moments last year where he looked very good. Hes strong enough to play BE talent, he plays solid D and rebounds. Maybe his shot is lost? But regardless him playing the point would allow Dion to go back to his natural position.

In my opinion, Parker has proven that he is not a point guard. Mick has said that Parker is not a point guard. Bishop would be the better option at point instead of Parker. He is not comfortable running the point, and is too quick to shoot. Unfortunately, his defense, when he has played this year, has not been effective, even against the 'soft' teams on the schedule. Dixon at least has the ability to dribble penetrate, and is very athletic, in contrast to Parker. It will be nice next year with the new guard recruits coming in.
