While some of what you said makes sense, making the "postseason" for the two sports is far different. 6-6 gets you a bowl game. What does 16-16 in basketball get you? If you're lucky, an NIT birth? Half of D-1 college football teams play in a bowl game, while 19% of college hoops teams make the NCAA tournament (and that's factoring in all 68 out of 351 teams...Mick has never gotten worse than a 10-seed, meaning he's finished Top 40 for 6 straight years).

If Mick fails to make the NCAA Tournament this year, I wouldn't be flipping out like I am with Tubs, but I think it would put him on the warm (not hot) seat. Even a 1st round exit will have me getting a little tired. He really needs to make some kind of noise this year.

No doubt it's not apples to apples and it's easier to make a bowl game than it is the NCAA tourney. I won't argue that.

At the end of the day though you've got two HC's who haven't won anything that amounts to any lasting value while playing in a conference that most of our own fans think is a joke. One is loved and the other is hated, it's kind of weird.

I think football is even closer to 2/3 making bowls.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

Amen, I find the outlook of so many of this board so mystifying.

Coach #1 - Everyone openly hates him (rightfully so). He takes his team to the post season every year he's been here and doesn't win anything of any significance. He doesn't compete for any kind of championships and he's full of excuses. He tells a fan to "go to hell" and "get a job" and everyone freaks the F out.

Coach #2 - Many fans LOVE him. He takes his team to the postseason every year but never wins anything of any significance. He doesn't compete for any kind of championships and he's full of excuses. He also openly spent a week and half last March entertaining offers from another school and people started a twitter # in his support.

Now it looks like Coach #1 might miss the post season for the first time and the mob is ready with their pitchforks to do him in (again, rightfully so).

I wonder if Coach #2 fails to make the post season this year would the reaction from some on this board be the same?? I doubt it and it really makes you scratch your head. How can so many people be so supportive of such a mediocre coach?

Making a bowl game and making the tournament as an at large bid are two completely different accomplishments. Over half the teams in division 1 make a bowl game and you only need a .500 record. Only roughly the top 50 teams out of 350 make the tourney (taking out the auto bids of lower conferences). While I agree I want better results out of the basketball team, comparing what Cronin is doing to what Tuberville is completely misguided.
