It's obvious Quadri was a mess on defense (when isn't he), but KJ was getting toasted pretty frequently, too. It was driving me crazy towards the end where we needed to score and we were a) taking our time on offense swinging the ball around, and b) had KJ in there over Cumberland. KJ did nothing but slow the offense down. When we need points, Cumberland HAS to be in there. There's no excuse. I'm glad everything worked out, don't get me wrong, but it just feels like KJ provides less and less these days. He's regressing a bit after that nice run he had. Cumberland deserves 25 minutes/game at this point IMO.

Kj saw 25 minutes of action and Cumberland 20. Before I make Cumberland the starter he needs to start making his FT's and perform a bit better on the road. His home and road splits are not close. At the end of a game right now I would rather have KJ on the foul line then JC. Also JC had 4 fouls last night. Nothing wrong with how Coach is using either player in my opinion.

Yea his shot wasn't falling. It happens. It may have not been what he meant but that is what he wrote down.

My comment had nothing to do with his shots falling or not. Most of our shots were not falling. He just didn't seem as engaged as normal for parts of the game...if you think that is insane...you are welcome to your opinion.

No I don't think he played well at all but before we trash our Bearcat student athletes we need to ask ourselves what do we know about playing in a college basketball game. I'm not the coach, your not the coach let Mick do his job. Maybe this somehow pays off somewhere down the road. I trust our coach we are like 20-2, right.

So because fans haven't played D1 sports or coached D1 sports they can't comment on them unless they're making positive comments? You and I have very different outlooks my friend.

On another note, still can't believe what a great finish to that game we had last night. Hopefully we learned a little lesson on rotations going forward until we can get Brooks back to healthy.

Yes I disagree but no big deal.

A lot of times when Troy is not shooting well (which I didn't think he shot horribly) he will grab 6-7 boards and 5-6 assists. He can normally help us out in other ways but he only had 2 of each. He won the game for us at the end...and he should get big kudos for that. That was big time. The whole team was off last night not just Troy.

Evans was off all night. We didn't have other guys taking enough shots. I would have liked to see Clark back his man down a little more to make the perimeter defender either sag more for help or have to stay closer to his man on the perimeter creating a one on one for Clark. Gary was throwing it back out a little too quickly...which kind of defeats the purpose. Normally he dribbles the ball a little more and backs his man down a little more which creates the decision for the defender to double down or stay on his man. That defender cannot guard the block and the 3 point line at the same time...but he can sit in the middle and get to both guys.

Happy with the W! It's not easy to win them all this time of year especially on the road (as coach said). I will take it. I am just pointing out some things we can do next time maybe.

This is only one game worth of data...but it's interesting to look at the +/-and I wish I had the data for the whole year to draw conclusions from. However, when KJ was in with the other 4 starters the team was -1...when Cumberland was in with them we were +19.

A lot of this can obviously come down to timing...maybe the team just was making more shots at the right time. But it's not as simple as looking at the PPG for each player on the road...you have to look at the overall impact on the team. This is likely somewhat of an anomaly but I wouldn't be surprised to see the +/- stack up better for Cumberland than KJ with the starters overall.

I don't think we are going to see a change in the starting lineup...but I also don't think coach should ignore stats like +/-...and maybe he isn't. Maybe overall KJ has been better IDK. If there is a significant difference maybe instead of starting Cumberland we just bring him in sooner and for longer. This way we keep KJ's confidence up and we benefit as a team.

What are you talking about? I never once said about his last shot that was great. I just said the one he should have popped the 3 when the guy fell right in front of him or drove right away in stead of looking to his left for Jake to do something. I'm extremely happy and always have been with Troy. I think at some points he can be a little passive and anyone can tell you that. the dude was laying on the ground in front of him where he could have shot a wide open 3. It all worked out though.

I can agree though it looks like there was supposed to be a play and it never went, so glad Troy finally drove to the basket. Last shot was perfect. Would rather him take that shot at the free throw then get blocked too.

Sorry about that, re-read the post I replied to. Not sure why I read it a different way. But much appreciation for a diplomatic response!

Waite, check this out. Coach is saying what I am about our fight for the first 33 minutes.

Yah...We got out toughed and out hustled for too long. We got killed on the glass.

These are things that can happen when you get off to a slow start and the other team makes a few. They start to believe from the beginning and get jacked up.

This is why I can't believe when I hear things like "it doesn't matter who starts but who finishes". Slow starts are the first ingredient for an upset. You want to take the crowd out right away on the road and rip out any hope the other team has to win.

I think the size and strength of the Tulsa post defenders prevented Gary from backing them deeper in the post as he normally does. I swear the guy from Sudan or wherever was 33 years old. They weren't the most skilled post players, but their physical presence gave both Kyle and Gary problems. Quadri too, but everyone gets healthy on his watch.

As a few people mentioned, we really hasn't had a tough road game in a while. And 2 Sundays ago was @Tulane, the Xavier game we obviously didn't need to try to get up for, and the USF game...I can understand how we'd be flat. AAC cruise control kind of thing. But most of the teams aren't just total walkovers from here on out.

Based on the above points, I don't get why Coach talks about how tired everyone is all the time. Obviously it's easy for me to say, we just haven't had tons of high stress game lately.

Speaking of getting tired. A few games back I looked at the conference leaders in minutes played per game. Troy was first on our team but 25th in conference. Apparently, we should be fairly well rested...Lol.

I swear we played that Eto dude when he was at Rutgers in the Big East, didn't we? If so, that is nuts.

And he was already granted an unprecedented 8th year of eligibility next year bc of transfer, medical, and hardship waivers. Crazy stuff!
