I see both sides but I think the most important thing to take from these numbers is that we, incorrectly, tend to say this team can't shoot. That just isn't true. Sure, they started slow this year, but it's been pretty obvious lately that there are some guys who can shoot the heck out of the ball. Troy has been great. It is almost a shock when he takes a three and it doesn't go in. KJ has really rebounded from his early struggles. Shaq has really improved his consistency although a smaller sample size. This team will go as far as their offense takes them. The efficiency has been pretty good of late. Hopefully that is a trend that will continue into the AAC and NCAA Tourneys. When they play inside out their efficiency skyrockets. Have to feed the post.

Bingo! Just yesterday there was a troller came into to say this team "couldn't shoot a lick". Even some of the forum regulars have held on to this same idea we were saying early in the year.

Things have changed. We can shoot. We just needed to gain the confidence and take advantage of the inside out game so we aren't forcing bad shots as often. We haven't been taking nearly as many bad shots. Our shooting ABILITY was never the problem.

Haha Can't Score Cats just doesn't think JC can get it done.

Most UC fans simply aren't intelligent in terms of basketball knowledge. Look at some of the other UC boards...there are guys that have thought we'd play in the NIT the last 3 years. It is mind bogglingly stupid over there.

Don't want to get too off-topic, but as a UC/Reds/Bengals fan, the dumbest to me is easily some Reds fans. Votto gets all this hate for A) walking too much, as if there is such a thing, seeing as the goal is to get on base, and B) hating him for being hurt, thinking he's simply being "lazy" and "choosing not to play." As if they're all doctors. Blows my mind.

What is one to do if they don't have access to CBS sports network anymore because their girlfriend downgraded their cable package. Does anyone know any reliable streaming sites?

My only issue is his spot in the order. Given his makeup, he should be a 2 hole hitter, period.

Most are casual fans. Case in point the guys that constantly say "UC can't shoot" and "why can't Mick recruit shooters!?!?!?!"

Mick said team defense and stopping the drive are keys. Since they don't shoot the 3 that well as a team, I bet we'll be in the zone most of the game.

I'm far from a casual fan but do find myself wondering why the UCs and ULs of the world wouldn't give a scholarship to a kid that could check in and hit an occasional 3. We've had our share of decent shooters but very few lights out specialists. To illustrate the point:

UC Single Season 3pt FG% leaders:
1. Roger McClendon '86-'87: 80-168 (.476)
2. Steve Sanders '89-'90: 53-121 (.438)
3. Field Williams '03-'04: 90-206 (.437)
4. Field Williams '01-02: 59-137 (.431)

For comparison, there's a kid at Miami right now hitting about 44% with similar comp/att numbers as Field's '01-'02 year. It just seems like no matter if it's Huggs or Mick, they'll give that last scholly to an "athlete" they hope to coach some skill into rather than a shooter with maybe a little less athletic ability. Didn't Huggs pass on Chris Lofton because it was deemed he wasn't athletic enough? I recall Chris shooting about 47% from 3 at UT in at least one season.

Temple isn't a good three point shooting team either (other than Morgan) and they carved up our zone. I think the improvement in the man-to-man will play dividends tonight. I'd guess Thomas guards Harrison and Johnson guards Woodard. There is also a lot of opportunity to play three guards against Tulsa with Caupain, Cobb and Johnson.

A little worried about this game tonight, they need to come out strong, play turnover free and try not to play from behind. I think they will pull it out though in a nail biter.

63-61 UC

Turnovers and tempo will be key for UC. We have to push it on offense and limit our turnovers. We can't give them extra possessions. I am worrying Tulsa will be shooting lights out from 3 kind of like Xavier did.

Tempo is definitely huge. We have to stay committed to what's been working. This team has shown immaturity and an inability to handle success, so I just hope we don't play with the "too cool for school" attitude and forget to do the little things.

It should be noted that overall tempo the past 2 games hasn't really gone up over the course of the entire game. They've picked their spots to run which is good.
