For those not into the twitter game, Jon Rothstein recently spoke with Mick and provided some insight on some newcomers. By the way, Rothstein was one of the guys that actually liked the Cats last year and gave them some credit.

Mick Cronin on Cincinnati trying to return to the NCAAs "Our players have to understand the commitment + what it takes to get there."

on Cincinnati this year cont'd "You want to win every game, every year. We all feel the same way every year, it doesn't change."

on Cincinnati "I like our configuration better. Our younger guys are talented. Last year, we had to get our veterans 2 be role guys."

on Cincinnati's returnees "I'm worried about them thinking we arrived. We haven't arrived. It's a new year."

on Yancy Gates "It's about consistency. He has to understand why he was so good the last ten or twelve games of last season."

on Yancy Gates cont'd "I'm optimistic he can be one of the best big men in the Big East and hopefully the country."

on Sean Kilpatrick "It's a different scenario for him. He just has to continue to work on his weaknesses each and every day."

on Cashmere Wright "He's got competition now w Jeremiah Davis + Ge'Lawn Guyn. He's got to be healthy + be in shape."

on Dion Dixon "It's a lot more comfortable to have him off the ball. He's got to be a big part of what we do."

on Cheikh Mbodij "Of all the guys we're bringing in, he might have the best chance of stepping in. He has good hands + a good touch."

on Justin Jackson "He's our kamikaze guy. I love the way he can in the middle of our pressure."

on Cincinnati's freshman "They're all different. They all bring all different things to the table."

on Octavious Ellis "He's our wild card. He's 6-9 + just turned 18 last summer. He can shoot, handle, + has tremendous length."

on Kelvin Gaines "He's our enforcer. We need to block shots."

on Cincinnati's depth "I thought we had a team that could make a run but we ran into the wrong team. I love our program's depth."

Rothstein is certainly our Jeff Goodman. It's nice to have a fan in the media. We've got Rothstein then DeCourcy so that's the base of our media love club lol

As for the comments:

Good stuff from Mick about this year being a new year. I think the team DOES get it and getting fat and lazy on last year's success won't be an issue. I hope I'm right.

As for the freshmen, it really seems like Mick is going to let them all battle for a shot at regular time in the rotation behind the starters. Competition is GOOD.

Agree, great post.

Of all Mick's comments the one that concerns me the most is his worry that the returnees will think they've arrived and not work as hard. This game is so much mental. You have to have the killer instinct each and every season, each and every game. If we retain that I believe we will be very tough this year.

I follow some of the players on Twitter and, if their tweets are any indication, this will not be an issue. Especially with Dion and Cash. Clearly, a Big East championship is a goal that they are working towards.

I like that he is guarding against complacency and can use the talent of the frosh to push returning players. I am still very intrigued by the pg spot. Going to be interesting indeed to see who gets minutes. The point and the SF position are what I'll be watching very closely.
