Winning the big games fills seats. When Mick makes a deep run, they will come. When the Bengals win just ONE playoff game, people will come. Why is X selling out games? The past decade they have had more success in the tournament than we have. Sweet 16 and a couple of Elite 8 appearances. It's that simple

X does not sellout every game. You have to realize that this is historically the best they have ever been. So they have two things UC does not have right now, motivated (but much smaller overall) fanbase, and tons of Mr. Farmer's sweatshop money. That's it.

Well they average 3,000+ more fans than us

That it no way contradicts what I just said. Our biggest crowds are obviously larger than theirs, also true.

No you're just nitpicking what I originally said. So maybe they don't officially "sellout" but they get 9,000+. Last game we had 7,xxx something and the game before that it was in the 6's

Wrong on all accounts. after 2 minutes of research found out in 2013 cincinnati averaged 9,253 fans per game, xavier was also in the mid 9,000s. That 9k we averaged is better than West Virginia, south carolina, notre dame, villonova, and orgeon to name a couple. Top that with the fact that our ticket sales are up 33% this season, so this thread is stupid....We played nc central call down 7k for that isnt bad. Wait till some of the bigger teams come to town. Anyone at that louisville game would say our fans are crazy, rewatched that game on youtube and the two announcers said it was one of the best atmospheres they've seen in all of college basketball

The main point of my original post and all that I was really trying to get across was this: "Winning the big games fills seats." Damn this board is so quick to jump on someone lol. I should have just wrote "X has not had attendance problems since then..."

"Wrong on all accounts" lol

Thank you.

Haha this sums it perfect. Also, I can't stand hearing people compare our basketball program now to early Huggins' 90's era. College basketball is extremely different now than it was back then. You can't compare the two. Its worthless to dwell on that. Yes, those years are nice, but college basketball is different now and we have a nice program. Time to let it go and embrace the now. If not, don't waste your time being a "fan".

What? Please explain how it is different today? If anything, it is light years easier to make a run today, so there is absolutely no reason to settle for just a nice program. Just ask George Mason, VCU, Butler, and Wichita St. We're spending $100 Million on football and $72 Million on basketball, all that added to what we recently spent on the Lindner Center, Varsity Village, and the bubble. When you're spending like that, the goal is not just a nice program. You're trying to be a top program. You can't have just a nice program in Cincinnati and survive. This city will not support anything less than the best. Xavier had a nice run of NCAA success and are now sitting there and making fun of our crowds. Meanwhile, they're also landing some top recruiting classes as well. They also have the benefit of being able to paint "Big East" all over their court now, which has a huge name recognition factor. They're also selling out. We can't sit here and make excuses. As we take baby steps, that program is stealing the city. It's time for UC to steal it back.

Last year X was 42nd nationally in attendance at 9,890 per game. We were 53rd at 8,567 per game.

I've already discussed this in detail earlier in this thread, but I'll say it again. Continue to make the tournament every year, land some top recruiting classes, make some long runs in the tournament, play an exciting brand of basketball......which will finally energize the fanbase and start the momentum that will elevate the program.....exactly what Huggs did, what Shaka Smart did, what Brad Stevens did, what X did.

Get so tired of the looking back and resurrecting in one shape, form or fashion the program under the former coach. It's a decade behind us and I'm not looking back. Time to move into the present and look ahead. Thread closed.
