From Mo Egger's Blog:
"Speaking of UC, my producer Garrett was wearing a Notre Dame sweatshirt while playing whiffleball in Nippert Stadium the other day. Some UC players (don't know which ones) approached him and politely told him to wear something else. I have no problem with this. If it's the players giving Garrett a hard time, you should expect it when you rock someone else's gear. If it's overzealousness, that's EXACTLY what you want if you're a coach.
I wouldn't have worn the sweatshirt, and if I owned it, would have exhibited more common sense than to wear it on the Nippert turf, but if you're expecting me as a fan to be outraged about him doing so, I'm sorry to disappoint you. I'm just not.
Plus, Garrett is now getting some gear sent to him by the UC coaches. He doesn't know I get half of what they send him."
I like this move by the UC players. When I was a student at UC, I played in the flag football championship twice on Nippert's turf. The number of people wearing sweatshirts from colleges not named Cincinnati was amazing to me. At no time did anyone say anything about it. It was common place. Shoot, going to the games was just an excuse to hang out, watch some football, and drink more beer. Now that this team has had success, I love that they are taking charge and making people recognize that it is not going to be accepted to have someone wear a ND sweatshirt (or any other team for that matter) in Nippert Stadium. WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE!! I like that it was done politely (there is no need to be mean about it) but more importantly I like that it was the players doing this. This, combined with Butch Jones having a runner escorted to the campus bookstore is great and just gets me fired up for this football season!
