UC vs Maryland ES

I know UMES is terrible and 0-8, but it actually looks like UC spent some practice on the offense. The motion is much better this game.

Defense is constant.

I actually feel sorry for some of these lousy teams that come in here to play us.

If I'm MC I sub the next time JJ or Kila have their cross court pass intercepted in the half court offense.

Today we learned that if we need a 3pt shot and Parker, Kilpatrick, Wright are covered - throw it to Jackson first, Rubles second, and Guyn third.

Maybe Sanders before all of them.

What on earth is going on with Parker at the FT line? Shooting 50% at the line isn't going to cut it. 2-6 today.

I like 9 assists from Cash. The points and 3 point shooting is nice to see but his assist numbers need to start rising, even against cupcakes.

Very business like, had to stay motivated up 30. Still need to value the ball more. I love the potential of this team.

Marshall isn't as good as many thought but boy will they jacked up for this one. Their defense has been horrible this season but I have a feeling they'll be extra physical in this one. Cats better bring it next Saturday.

Shaquille Thomas needs to spend hours in the gym simply shooting shots over and over and reworking his shot, adding in some arc. Dude looks like he gets it. Seems to be positioning himself better.

I thought Guyn regressed today. And Sanders just never seems to do too much that impresses me.

I hope we get payback in the Marshall game, and then stick it to Xavier. Even if Xavier had some unreal game and beat us, it won't matter. I'm looking more forward to hopefully beating New Mexico, a ranked team, unlike X. Xavier is one of those games where their players have nothing to lose and seem to play out of their minds. I look for them to act like punks as usual.

I was most impressed with Cash. The 6 of 7 threes is nice, but I really liked the 9 assists. I like that his scoring has gone up this year, but it also seems like it's taken away from his passing and assists. I think the ball should just generally be in his hands more often.

Great win. The team looked good. I like the development of Nyarsuk and I think with a lot of guys that are inexperienced (Nyarsuk, Sanders, Thomas, Mbodj, Guyn)...theyre only going to get better. I love the potential here...I still feel like we haven't fired on all cylinders but because we've been dominating the glass and kicking ass defensively, we're still off to a great start.

One question though, and more out of curiousity or anything...

There are absolutely zero off-ball screens in our offense. I think this must be out of design. Today, there was a lot of cutting and penetration into the lane with dishing out. The movement was much better than Alabame where were people standing around more on offense. But is the lack of off-ball screens a new offensive thing for Mick, or am I just noticing it this year? Is it common for there to be an offense with no off-ball screens? I can't tell if I just never noticed or if this is a whole new game plan for us. Obviously, it can work because we were up 92 but it seems strange to me. Strange doesn't necessarily mean bad...just not what I would have in mind for offensive strategy.

^ the no ball screens is the new offense Mick implemented full force this year. It was partial last year with Yancy but now it is a dribble drive offense which basically just dribbles around the perimeter and exploit a mismatch if one becomes available. No ball screens and very little ball movement in this offense. I don't like watching it but so far it appears to be working, with the exception of some long scoring droughts.

That game was the definition of efficiency. Really impressed after Thursday's debacle.

Anyone besides me think Cash is our best three point shooter...and that threes should be a focal point for this team? Cash is knocking down NBA threes like they are layups.

Sk is prob better with a hand in his face...but cash is money with the set shot. 46+%?

Yes. He is usually efficient with his shots. By far the best point gaurd this team has had in years. I hope Cronin realizes that we need a PG to continue this success.

Agree agree agree! Also this team is clearly at its best with pushing the ball quick. We just have to do it against better teams and we will be money.

Quote from Cash, love it!

"Coach Cronin believes in the fact that it doesn't matter who we play, they can beat you. That's how he approaches practice. That's how he approaches walkthrough. We had walkthrough like we were playing Syracuse today. He was yelling and he was telling us that if we didn't play well they would beat us. A team that hasn't won a game yet and has nothing to win. They're going to come in here ready to play."

During the game yesterday, there was a point where Cash and Killa were on the bench, and Cronin walked over laid into them...as he was walking away, Cash and Sean began laughing...I think they were laughing at mick's intensity...this is a really good group of kids and they are really learning from/playing hard for Cronin...we are very fortunate to have Cronin at the helm
Go Bearcats!

When Jackson hit his three pointer, Kilpatrick stood up on the bench and cheered and Cronin walked over to him and laid into him about something. I heard Cronin's demeanor with all this football talk has been somewhat angry over the past few days. Also know he is more than displeased with the crowds that have not been showing up so to speak. I think it's early, the team and Cronin are kinda waiting for Big East play to start and good crowds to come and get into some real basketball. The team is on the verge of beiing a top 10 team and it seems to be an afterthought. I did get a wink and a smile out of him after the game when he walked past me on his way to his radio interview.
