UC vs Oregon

I saw the game. I don't see the disgrace that many fans seem to. I was worried coming in after watching the UNLV game. Oregon really played well and beat #18 on their home court. I think both will be dancing by what I saw.

Obviously we had a great start. Cash and SK were on fire. Then for about half the game between the beginning and the end we looked sick. That is going to happen. The key is to win the game by whatever means possible.

I saw a few areas that can easily be corrected so it's not a big deal and once they watch the film I am sure MC will too. JJ needs to control himself. SK and Cash need to realize their offensive capabilities...along with the rest of the team. I don't know how many times SK has turned it over while dribbling with 2 or more defenders around him. We just have to realize we are not Superman. This is not a dribbling showcase for mediocre dribblers. Back to basics...just get open looks and shoot...or drive the lane without a lot of fancy dribbling on the perimeter. Parker is a good case study. He just goes to the hoop without between the legs or behind the back dribbling. It's not necessary in most cases.

I again take this, "I don't know how many times SK has turned it over while dribbling with 2 or more defenders around him", back to basketball iq. Understanding if there are 2-3 around you, someone is open. Also where are the cutters when these double teams take place? It's about guys understanding what to do and when to do it.

You just can't admit you were wrong with that 3 point comment can you?

Huh.....

You are saying that UC wins with defense and rebounding. So YOU are agreeing with me about the offensive end.

And unless youre playing fantasy football you cant win 0 to -1. You still have to score points.

Thank you for agreeing with me for once

You said if uc doesn't hit their threes they can't win. I decimate your argument and you promptly change the entire argument

AHHHH TWO WALLS ARE ATTACKING EACH OTHER!!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!!

Must make you the floor, cuz anything I say is way over your head

Anyway. I never said they cant win if they dont hit threes. I said they struggle in the half court offense and when the 3s werent falling against Iowa St in the 2nd half, they let them back in the game.

Carry on

This is a good review of what UC is.On Monday's ESPNU College BBall Podcast

"...and Cincinnati.. Cincinnati is who they are. They are a bunch of tough city guys that are gonna defend ya and check ya and make some shots...they're gonna attack ya off the bounce, they're running all dribble drives with some spreads. They're a tough, hard-nosed team that you know kinda reflects their city and reflects their coach."

While you keep going on and on about them running a offense the point is they have play to their strengths. I'll say so far they have done that quite well. As mentioned before it would be nice to beable to have a post up game but that is not who we are. Trying to coach the players to be something they are not is not helping them. Our team dribble drives and dishes. They play hard D and try to score off turnovers and hit the glass. They spread the floor and penetrate looking for the shot ,foul or open man for the three.

OK

Let me say this one last time. I agree they are who they are!!
I have not argued that. Ever

I have a problem with the scheme offensively. You can say what you want about no post presense or this and that. Not many teams have a true post player, but they have flow to an offense.

I want to see....
-movement without the ball
-quick passing
-attacking the rim
-dribble drive (not enough of it)
-effective screening

I am gonna make a bold prediction and say next year we find that True Post player-IMO, Jamaree Strickland will become that monster post player we are missing. He is perfect size and has lots of skill. While he isn't Lawrence, he is a real steal and I think could easily surpass Yancy Gates as Micks best big man while Head Coach at UC by the time he leaves. Don't forget, we actually have a real coach coaching the big men now (Antwon Jackson), not a former Withrow basketball coach.

I said you were stubborn and argumentative, you lived up to the part.
I bet this thread will still be going during Big East play.
:p

I've yet to see recent play from him. I think Yancy's role was diminished with the 4 guard set up. We need a true 5, to collect boards and get easy baskets. If he's aggressive and if he hasn't lost mobility after his injury, he could, potentially, be big for us.

Im not arguing. Im right. We can beat scrubs, but BE we'll need a better half court offense or even better, we'll play to our true strengths and run the floor on both ends with all this guard play and little post presense

Defense wins championships, offense sells tickets

Would help if our post players could stay on the floor.

There are several areas needing improvement. Need more motion, need penetration, need better spacing, especially when facing the press. We need bigs to go up strong and use two hands, need Jackson to stay within his game and quit fouling all the time etc.

I don't think though, it would be wise to just run the whole game. The moment someone goes zone and packs it in, you're toast.

I too get concerned about the bigs staying on the floor. Especially Mbodji and Jacksn who have time in the system. They need to understand not to extend the hands, and when to play solid defense and when to go for a blosk.

He is very stubborn and won't admit he was wrong

Can you give a reasonable argument as nomadic finally did.

Nomadic, I agree about the bigs. I dont see too many big in college bball that are well rounded either, on any team. Can still run an offense. As far as running the floor I dont think we do enough of it. When we do, if teams do decide to pack the paint then well have open looks from the perimeter

One last time You run your offense to the strength of the team. That is the weave and dribble, drive and dish. we don't have the post players to run the offense through ther bigs.Yes we struggle in half court offense. We did last year as well.Until we get a big who can score with his back to the basket it will always be a issue. We can't run and press for 40 minutes because Cash,Parker and Killa are the offense and we won't be using them up pressing full court. JD,GL are not talented enough to play for long spurts. You wanting them to run some other offense because in your mind we won't win in the BE without it is laughable.Lets try it a different way. What offense do you want to run and against what D will it be most effective against? What should we run against a zone. I'll say it again let Mick coach you buy a ticket and Cheer. He knows his players and the competition much better than any of us. You tying to make it sound so simple like run a half court offense is not a solution to not having a post player who can pass and score with his back to the basket. Trying to be something we are not is foolish.

Do you wake up every morning trying to figure out how you are going to argue with me? If so, Im honored

Your reasoning has nothing to do with running a half court offense.

Having a post player has nothing to do with standing around. Dribbling the air out of the ball. Little movement away from the ball. No effective screening. Leave it at that

I continue to agree with you that our post presence is horrible. No argument there. Even more reasoning to not settle in a half court offense
