A zone would at least keep Vogt from needing to defend outside the paint, which is where he is weakest.
This is the type of team fans wanted. Get offense first players, play good enough defense and outscore the other team. When you recruit players with limited athleticism, the defense can only be so good. Though at some point we may have to start questioning how good of a defensive coach Brannen is.
