We need to get back on defense every single possession. No walking down the court. This ain't SMU.

We should be able to dominate the boards. IF they beat us, I want them to beat our half court defense and if they do, then tip your caps to em. '

But if we let them play their game and run up and down the floor, then Ill be frustrated because it would be the wrong game plan.

We absolutely need not to press . Maybe Troy or KJ can guard full court but pressing is a bad idea. we haven't generated a lot of TO out of our soft press any way and Ball will just pass his way out of it. He won't even try to dribble through.

Yea, we haven't really done much press the entire season against way more inferior guards so I'm not sure why we would start against a team that does really well in transition.

Really want mick to put Evans on ball, also want Cumberland in there alot for kj (I see Cumberland having a big time game tomorrow). But for starters I'd like to see:

-Evans on ball (balls passing is a concern for me he could see right over kj and pick us apart). I think Evans matches up very well on ball and would also keep him off glass
-Kj on Alford
-Troy on issac Hamilton
-Gary on leaf (that matchup will be huge for us. I hope Gary mans him up physically)
-Kyle on Walsh
*no match up zone
*got to keep them off glass 0 second chances and cannot turn ball over. We will go as Troy goes need him to keep attacking constantly and not let us go on droughts (scoring or creating). Can't wait for this game!

Since when do we walk up the floor to play defense?

I get a kick out of the posts that think we could possibly get caught up in a track meet...Lol!

Welcome to planet Earth

One word of caution, Kent State was playing pretty good defense in spurts during the game last night as we all know MAC teams are wont to do. From what I saw UCLA could handle it. Just saying it may not be easy. Might still just come down to whether Troy can put the ball in the hoop two games in a row and I am nervous.

Comparing our defense to Kent state is pretty far fetched. No matter how "hard" they were playing they come in at 143 in adjusted defense according to Kenpom where we are 11th at the moment. They aren't even close to the same level as us.

Bruin faithful here

On paper, UC vs UCLA is by far the most intriguing matchup of the weekend.

We've been caught looking a few times. Usually when we make a great offensive play, and the team doesn't hurry and get back."

It hasn't happened much this year, but happened last year and when we played UK.

we've yet to play a team with this kind of pace

It could either be really entertaining, but not in the typical UCLA highlight reel way or it could be a blood bath if we can't hit shots.

If we hold this team to 20 points below their average, they still score 70. SO we really need to put the ball in the basket all game.

Only difference between our team that year vs this year is almost everything lol. At least concerning our offense. If we had the players we do now in that game we win, guarantee it.

We will put the ball in the basket, this will Ben one of the easiest defenses we play against all seasons I have very little concern about us scoring points. Just need to keep them from going crazy.

I'm sure UCLA will have its runs but good D frustrates and causes even very good O teams to play outsides its comfort level. So points off TO's will likely balance out the runs. May come down to foul trouble, or which team hits it free throws.

The only difference between UCLA and every team we've played the last 5 years is.. almost everything

but what Zone have we scored well against all year if the 3 ball isn't dropping?

Thats what concerns me. Kent State has guys who fearlessly attacked. We need Evans or Troy to do that. Or its bad news.

I mean everybody is going on and on about how abad UCLA defense is. The stat you need to know though:

28th

UCLA has a top 30 2pt FG% defense. They only allow teams to score 45% of their 2 point shots.

They also are top 50 in shot blocking.

The place where their defense absolutely struggles is guarding the 3. Last night we shot a great percentage from 3 but we only took 11 and made 5

We need to make more than that.

UCLA's losses this year:
Oregon: 11 3pt made
Arizona: 9 3pt Made
USC: 14 3pt Made
Arizona: 10 3pt Made

Pretty much, we have a very small chance of winning unless Evans, Troy, Kj and jargon combine for at least 9 or 10 3's

They're also not good at forcing turnovers at only 16% for 310th in the country.

A reasonable goal for our D is to hold them to 1.1 per possession.

The offense's target is 1.2. Yes we could score that and still lose, as multiple teams have done vs them this year, but I don't think that'll be us and I'll take our chances scoring 1.2 vs them
