i think the role he's been asked to take on this year has been a factor in the last 2 games. his legs really look dead at the moment. hopefully he can get them back soon.

Yeah I mean we came away with the W, I could see more complaining if we didn’t. But he needs a few games he can take off and slow down a little bit. I’d ratger him take off a couple now then come tourney time

Jarron is a top ten player in college basketball imo... his head wasn't in it today tho. Looked uninterested in playing

I agree. If you’re a great player you are held to that standard. Fair or not. Also, he can have an off game against UConn, who is 4-10 in the league but if he plays like that against a decent team. We lose. Also go get the ball if they are denying you. Great players don’t let other teams dictate what they do. I love Jarron he just has to learn how to adjust because teams aren’t agaurding him 1-1 anymore

Williams lucked out a bit. He was not aware of the clock until almost too late. Cane with an absolute monster dagger!!

I think Cane called for the ball because he knew it was about to end. I thought Keith was about to pull JR Smith. He didnt know or he wouldve turned around and chucked up a shot

Cumberland did seem uninterested somewhat. I think his frustration in what the defenses have been allowed to do to him got the better of him today. He's taking a beating and getting no calls. We had touch fouls on us all game and get hammered in return. Jarron has been straight up held and grabbed for two straight games and the refs have done nothing. Mick addressed it in the postgame that he is going to say something to the league about it. Whereas some of that comes across as whiny, hes 100 percent right. Top player in the league and the refs are just allowing teams to beat him up. The refs in this league are straight garbage this year. UConn is horrible defensively and yet got whistled for no fouls except with 6 seconds left when they had to foul for what the last 12 minutes. Yet we got whistled like 8 times in that stretch. That's complete BS.

I don’t think Cumberland was uninterested. I think he’s tired of being held, pushed, grabbed with no calls. And he lets that effect him. He was a little lazy at times with passes, etc.

That said - man has he been great this year. I fully expect him to get his swagger back assuming the refs go back to calling the game the way they did prior to recently.

It’s perfectly okay to say Jarron didn’t have a good game and didn’t seem to have his typical put team on shoulders attitude. He’s been carrying the load and it would be hard to expect that for every game. No need to make excuses...he was off. No big deal. The other guards stepped up. Cumberland will be back and fine.

Our bigs took some questionable shots and attempted some questionable plays. We have other players (guards) who can make plays...we don’t need Scott and Brooks doing it. I always cringe when I see Scott put the ball on the ground and try a spin move or extra dribbling. That’s not in his wheelhouse.

Scott drinking is an automatic turnover. Him posting someone up is an automatic turnover. He needs to get better in the off season and stick to what he’s good at...hitting the boards.

Cland had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in a game in which the opposing game plan was geared solely to shutting him down. He also broke a six minute scoring draught in the second half and made two critical free throws at the end of the game. If Cland “was not in the game” then I am sure Connecticut would like to know what it was doing all day.

He’s been getting the same treatment for a long time now. He gave the ball up more than he should have today. Normally he tries to do more with the ball. It didn’t seem like a priority today from he or Cronin. By the way... I thought Cronin stunk today as well

UCONN brought x players and coaches in a full house against Cincinnati. That last run at the end of the game and thanks to many of the calls will help UC when we play UCF on senior day in their full house. WE WON

Does anyone else think Diarra played his way into a bigger role today? I think he could be an asset against SMU since their bigs are more mobile and play on the perimeter more.

I was at the game behind the bench and noticed his body language wasn't great. He did look tired. Hes allowed to have a semi-bad game or 2. Glad others stepped up. With playing time Mamoudou will be a good player which was the biggest positive I took from the game.

I think there is a clear scouting report on Cumberland right now - close out on him hard and dare him to beat you off the dribble. He is taking a lower percentage of his shots at the rim than Justin Jenifer, and is shooting worse there as well, despite Jenifer being pixie-sized. In fact, only Nsoseme, who cannot hit a shot from anywhere, has shot worse at the rim than Cumberland. Throw in his 34% shooting on 2-point jumpers and it is pretty clear why you want to run him off the 3-point line, where he will kill you.

Some of this stems, I think, from Cumberland being wary of picking up offensive fouls. He has shot a lot less at the rim this year than in the past, and been worse at it. Last season, he could pick up a couple of quick charges and things would be OK - someone else could shoulder the scoring burden. This year he needs to stay on the floor, and offensive fouls were generally the thing that has forced him off in the past. His floaters and pull-ups have just been bad all year as well, which is something he needs to work on if he is going to be a successful pro.

Nsoseme has literally not made a shot in the month of February, and is 4-12 from the field in conference play. When you consider he rarely attempts anything more than a couple of feet from the basket, that is rather amazing. I know he has had issues with his hand, but he has been one of the worst offensive players in the country this season. He can't make shots, can't pass (4 assists in 325 minutes!!), doesn't screen well, and is 15-48 in his career from the line. His energy is great, but you need more than just energy.

This was the first time Diarra has played 10+ minutes in a game decided by fewer than 20 points, but every time he has gotten minutes he has shown himself to be an effective scorer who can also get on the glass and block shots. He needs a lot of work on defense (he is still not strong enough), but these are his per 40-minute averages for the 6 games in which he has played at least 10 minutes:

17.8 points, 14 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 46% shooting, 67% FT

Overall, he has been the best rebounder on the team on a per-minute basis, is as good a shot blocker as Eliel, and a legit offensive threat. I don't see any reason he can't start to seize backup center minutes.

Last year no defense tried to stop him from driving. They had 3 or 4 other guys on the court to worry about. Usually everybody on the court had the ability to hit an open 3. This year outside of jenifer, nobody has that ability so every defense just has to stay in the paint and wait for cumberland to drive.

I'm kinda surprised it took this long for teams to start playing him like this. Hold him, grab him, deny deny deny. This league will let it happen.

I think Jarron is starting to wear down a little bit, this is his first season actually carrying the team and I think his mind and body are just starting to wear down like any other humans would. His body language just looks a little lazy, and yes I get he is basically getting mugged every play, I do still think he will get it back into gear tho and be back to the Jarron we know before we get to the last game with Houston. Like I said about the UCF game we find ways to win even when Jarron isn't scoring 25+ and that is a nice shot of confidence for the other guys on the team. I would say my biggest concern is the teams are finding ways to frustrate and take Jarron out of the game and you can tell by his body language that it is effecting him and that it is taking him out of his game. It worries me to a degree because we are going to play much better competition than UCONN in march so Jarron better get used to it and figure out a way to beat it. I think he will and we will be ready to battle UCF again in Orlando.

Cheers to 23 wins boys

It's good to know we can still reach 60 points when Cumberland is being held well below his average. Also good to see Cane starting to make his outside shots and Moore to an extent.

We still need to take care of our turnovers and dumb shots to maximize our possessions. We have 30 turnovers in the last two games and many ill advised shots. I don't like the bigs taking outside shots early in the clock and I also don't like it when Scott tries to create on his own. These guys should be catch and shoot (or turn and shoot) guys mid to late clock and or anytime we can get them the ball on the block.

We have made 11-12 FT's against UCF and 15-16 against Uconn. That saved our butts. We aren't going to make that % most nights (if again) so we have to be smarter when we have the ball.

We also need to limit big runs from the other team...so maybe a well placed timeout wouldn't hurt to re-focus.

we called one yesterday but it didn't help. we couldn't get cumberland the ball and with jenifer/williams/scott/brooks out there we had no way to score without cumberland touching it.

why we went to post up scott and brooks ill never know. they haven't been successful doing it all season. we really got fortunate cane hit those 3's, it would have been an awful game to lose up 15 with 11:23 to go to that team without its best player. cronin really had a bad day.

also when we went with cane and jenifer it makes no sense to have jenifer on the ball and cane on the wing. cane is much better creating his own shot and jenifer is much better at catching and shooting. its very strange. when we finally ran a high pnr with cumberland bc of how they were guarding cumberland we used jenifer on the ball instead of cane. weird decisions.
