What are your guys thoughts?

I think Sanders and Gaines look like they are best prepared to contribute. Neither will start or be serious players.

Gaines - I see Donald Little when I watch him play. I know people crush D Little but being near 7 feet tall with that athleticism is such a weapon on the defensive end. He is a mean dude out there. He has been a block machine. His offense has been non existent. I can not wait for him to be a junior. We talk about a lot of guys putting on muscle (Ellis, Shaq, Justin) but Gaines body is most likely to be able to put on the muscle and use it well. He will be raw this year but I expect him to be able to come in for 5 minutes of meaningful basketball and rip some boards down and block some shots.

Sanders - I think will be the best scoring threat this year of all the freshman. He seems to have a good looking stroke and I love that he is a left hander. I hope he can find a way to get on the court for 10 minutes a game but I think that is wishful thinking. He seems a bit slow for our style of D. He is less athletic than Rashad but I think he will be a better basketball player.

Ellis - Surprising so far. He has shown what he can do. Being so tall and athletic makes me excited but I cant see him contributing until he puts on weight. If your playing the 4 in the Big East you can not be 210 pounds. I actually think he needs 2 years but Mick says he is not redshirting him this year because he will need him to play next year and wants him to get experience.

Gynn - I think a lot of people were expecting him to be the most ready after seeing him in the deveroes league, which was unfair IMO. I don't think he has looked all that good but he is playing the most difficult position to play as a freshman. Offense has stalled when he is in the game but thats expected. If Ellis is lost on a play he might be in the wrong position or something but if G is lost the offense stalls and we call TO. I am still high on him and love his strength and energy.

Davis - Didn't play yesterday but did get into the game on Sunday. The game looked very fast to him. It is tough to try to form an opinion after the 3 games I have seen. He seems to be able to get to the basket which I like. I think he needs to let the game come to him a little bit more.

Based on what? Maybe its nerves, but I haven't seen him come close on a three.

Gaines - a raw project with a tremendous upside. Offensively, yikes. Defensively, intimidation.

G - hes going to be serviceable imo. I dont feel like hes going to bring a ton, but I dont see him making an absurd amount of freshman mistakes.

Sanders - again serviceable. Obviously he knows basketball and is very smart. Would love to see him start shooting like everyone claims he can.

JD - hes going to be alright... ill agree the speed of the game just makes him seem lost.

ellis - D1 basketball and to not know what a pivot foot is? o boy...

I like Gaines' defensive game. He reminds me of Kenyon Martin when he got to UC. Long and athletic and looking to block everything. Offensively his game is very limited but he will be a good role player for this team. He won't score much but he won't have to. If he takes away 2 or 3 baskets from the other team with his defense, that is just like scoring on the other end in my book.

I want what he is taking.

The man is shredded
