Per the scout on Cincy Slangin' podcast, Reed is skilled offensively and a bucket getter. But yeah, overall we are trending much more towards Cronin type recruits: guys with size, length and/or athleticism but perhaps lacking in basketball skills. I'm okay with it though, play great defense, rebound and hope some shots go in, it's the Cincinnati way.

Also the quality of recruits is a bit higher than Cronin's. For the most part the relatively unskilled offensive players (like Skillings) Wes has gotten can still knock down 3's. 3-and-D is a lot better than please don't touch the ball-and-D.

Hopefully the scoring pop for 2022 comes from guys currently of the roster.

I was under a different impression. Skillings being more skilled (show myself out) and Reed being less skilled. Reed can knock a trey or handle contact in lane with not a lot of ball skills to make plays. Skillings having more of those ball skills and can shoot a little and more of a 3 level threat.

I'm guessing the uptick in ranked recruits is due to kids knowing they'll be in the Big 12 at least by their senior year.

I know it didn't help Cronin a ton to be in the Big East, but I think the circumstances with him were somewhat different than Miller, who has a championship ring and has been in the media somewhat more than Cronin was at Murray State.

From what I've seen/heard, I've gotten a much different impression. Some of the quotes from the Cincy Slangin poscast (may not be word for word). On Skillings: "averages less than 1 assist per game", "generally not a guy you want taking more than one dribble". Based on other scouting reports, it seems like he's good at straight line drives to the rim as well (though in college those often leads to charges). Per podcast scout, he's a guy who gets in the game as a freshman as a 3-and-D guy.

Reed on the other hand plays PG for his current team. Per the podcast scout, as a freshman he's a guy you put in the game when you need a spark off the bench to get you points. This is one scouting report. Solid athlete who thrives on his strength and savvy to make plays in traffic. The lefty can stretch the defense with his quick release three-point shooting. Not a big off the dribble scorer but can penetrate defenses and finish but more importantly can find teammates. Plays with poised control and sees the game. Has a sure handle.

From watching videos of both, Reed looked like he can be a point-forward type player. Shot doesn't look pretty, but he made a ton of 3's in the videos. Looked to be decent with the ball in his hands for his size and seems like he can be a playmaker.

Skillings looked like a guy that can defend. Doesn't look like a shooter, but he does look like a guy that plays for houston and will crash the glass from the 2 spot.

Tyler McKinley, 6'8 2024 PF from Walnut Hills, was at the Temple game last night on an unofficial visit.

I know it's not smart to fall in love with uncommitted recruits, but he's a kid I really want.

I see a LOT of Gary Clark in him.

I took a couple months off from following basketball, and it's nice to see we picked up some quality recruits in that time. I haven't watched any vidoes yet, but from what you guys are saying it seems like Reed could be a Pete Mickeal type player.
