I have said this for years and this team Ppears no different.... Mick designs his team to be long athletic and good defensively...half court offense under mick is flat awful bc the guys he recuits arent going to excecute flawless half court sets.

The tempo has to be pushed. To much stress on sets... Not enough flow.

If this team rebounded... Outlett and go they would be much better.

Clark, Moore, Sanders, and Deberry are to slow to press. Also our current team hasn't played together very much so there will be sloppy transition and turnovers when you press. Plus the up tempo burns up our guards legs...and without Guyn the current guards shooting percentages will plummet when they get tired. Which is basically what we witnessed against Ole Miss.

Mick has his work cut out for him this year...no easy solution with this team.

If Mick pushes the pace of the game, his defensive points per game allowed will increase and he will not be among the nation's leaders in that stat. He will do anything to keep that stat at or near the top of college basketball. He can't push the pace and create more possessions for the opposing team. Points per game allowed will rise above 60 which is unacceptable.

I agree with you. We have guard depth. Ellis can get out and run. Shaq would be more in his element. I think Clark is capable of running as well. Why not run and create more high percentage shots rather than walking up the court and letting the defense get set up and trying to attack it with a vastly inferior attack and no shooters. But, what do we know?

Mormon, Shaq, Johnson all are very turnover prone. You only have one big that can play transition well. Uptempo would not benefit this team in my opinion.

I dont associate tempo with just pressing... To me if this team rebounds and goes they will get better looks... They can play whatever defense Mick wants.

Naturally this means the other team will score more due to more attempts. But this team HAS to find a way to score more.

Yeah, when I addressed pushing the pace, I was not implying full court pressure more than I was looking for the quick outlook pass after a rebound and getting out on the break. More often than not, our outlook pass goes to someone at the same relative position on the court as the guy who gets the rebound. I've seen many opportunities to run and make the diagonal pass to someone out front who was on the move, but we rarely take advantage of the opportunity. Our overall depth this year is as good as it's been under Mick, so I would like to take advantage of that rather than continue to watch this pathetic offensive attack we've been watching this year for the most part (MTSU excluded).

Cincinnati has consistently been in the 300's in tempo which really makes no sense if you think of them as a pressing teams. Other pressing teams like Louisville and VCU play at a much faster tempo. Mick often states he wants to play at that pace and with a lead guard like Caupain that should be possible. However, I very rarely see an outlet pass and when I do usually good things happen.

Missing so many layups is a player issue IMO. Can't coach that; if you miss so many of them you are simply bad at Bball.

I like the comment about TV timeouts. Those things suck.

Last home game we had I was talking about how awful the breaks are. There are way too many media timeouts along with the amount each team is given. It ruins any kind of flow that is developing on the floor. Not sure what can be done about it though.

Raze 5/3rd in an angry mob to make a statement?

Coaches timeouts should become media timeouts if they occur before a stoppage of play. For example, right now if Cincinnati calls a full timeout at 15:59 and then right off the timeout the inbound pass is batted out of bounds...there is another media timeout. That literally drives me crazy.

It doesn't help that we rarely make any effort to run a structured fast break off made baskets too. Way too often we have one of our guards in bounding the ball to a pg who walks it up or the pg in bounds to someone who passes it back to the pg.

There's no reason we shouldn't be in attack mode off every make or miss for about 9 million reasons but we never do.

I like that idea. I can not stand that either!! 5 timeouts each plus media timeouts is way too much.
