For those who think a win is a win. Our metrics were once at like #15 on bartorvik site around the Tulane game. We are now at #32. Even after ECU they weren't bad we only dropped 4 spots to #19. We dropped 7 after BEATING USF.

We were ranked #28 going into the first WSU game and we have won every game but Houston (7 total games) and we are now ranked 4 spots lower. Houston only dropped us 1 spot. We have lost more metric points in some of our wins than our losses.

The wins are going to help us in quadrants. But they aren't helping us in metrics..they have actually been hurting us.

We have 3 wins that cost us more than Houston loss. We have 2 wins that cost us more than ECU loss. Of course there could have been some other shuffling of teams around us...but the point remains these close wins can both help and hurt our cause when looking at quadrants and metrics.

By close games I mean actual close games or games close to the predicted spread.

So our two conference losses cost us about 5 total spots on T-rank. We came in at #15 and we are now #32. Which means all of our wins totaled up have cost us 12 spots in metrics.

I would not say "a win is a win" anymore but "it is what it is". Last year I think the metrics would have helped us a bunch. This year...not so much. I think we should do okay in quadrants though

i think we are sliding back to about where most thought we'd be. coming into the year we thought we'd be a team right above the bubble if things went well. probably somewhere in the 35-45 range overall. sitting at 31 on kenpom and 32 are Torvik is a little better than what we thought with the trend sliding towards where we thought we'd be.

Broome is really making his case for more PT the past 10 games and Jenifer has also struggled in half of those 10 games with ORTG's under 100 5 times.

Jenifer - 249 minutes 92 points 16 assists 12 TOs

Broome - 202 minutes 85 points 27 assists 9 TOs

Both are also 6-17 from 3 the last 5 games, maybe Broome's shot is finally coming around.

This sounds crazy but the last two games were Cane's best 3 point shooting performances all year. He was 2-3 and 2-4. That is a VERY small sample but I just hope you are right and he's finding that shot back from last year.

He's been doing a great job of valuing the ball lately

I was 2 points off from predicting the exact score. But anyway Jarron did what Jarron always does and that is score, lets hope he stays hot going into march. I thought Jenifer played well minus that BS TV Teddy foul 9 seconds into the game. I am not the biggest fan of Fredricks but man he really showed up on the boards yesterday. I love seeing Cane Broome making a lot of his shots now, he's a great kid and a 5th year guy so this is his last go around and I think him and Jenifer are a great offset to each other.
We have the Charmin brothers playing in the front court for us in Brooks and Scott, Brooks is a fantastic shot blocker but they are both just so soft around the rim finishing shots. Nsoseme seriously gives so much effort off the bench and he has such a bright future with this team. Anyway onto UCF.

Cheers to 21-4 and hopefully back in the top 25

Yah. The problem is the slide is occurring for different reasons than I thought. I didn't think we would be able to score this year. But it turns out we can. It's our inexperience and decision making getting in the way of us blowing teams out. Oh and maybe our bigs getting tougher on the inside

Fredericks should never be in a situation where he thinks it's okay to try to drive the ball into the lane with defenders around and shoot the ball. I like the 3 pointer he took yesterday when he had 12 seconds to get the shot off. And I also liked his dunk the other day with nobody around. Outside of that type of scoring he just needs to rebound and defend.

He looks pretty bad when he has more than 0 guys guarding him

and the fact that we can't guard the 3 point line. wichita st abused our switches to get wide open 3 after wide open 3. luckily they shoot 30% as a team on the season so they couldn't do anything with it.

i'd say we've been kinda blessed to not face too many good shooting teams this year but if we get matched up with one in the first round it could be a problem.

is 2 games off really being wrong? especially when you factor in some of the OOC teams didn't end up being what we expected.

Potato.

Let's play 'what if'...what if, before the season began, somebody told you UC, through 25 games would be 21-4? Wouldn't you have been pretty happy? Especially knowing that we had a lot of unproven parts playing bigger roles...

my point was only i wouldn't feel like i got it wrong just being 2 games off. i think if we had 6 quad 1 and 2 games like last year in the OOC your record very easily could have been right.

He seems like he's been putting a little bit more arc on his 3pt shots compared to the line drive shots he was doing. Hopefully the trend continues because him being able to hit 3s consistently, even just 35%, could make a huge difference.

I admittedly don't know a lot about "metrics", but if the idea is the Bearcats are dropping because they aren't beating bad/average competition by enough points, I'm not sure there's much that can be done. The typical response is "yeah there is, beat them by more". But how realistic is that? Not sure this team is good enough to drub everyone they are suppose to. Too many variables. I do wish that they wouldn't get complacent with bigs leads, as it might cost them down the road. One bad loss from a team many predicted would struggle this year is pretty good.

I am very happy with the win total and I am on record saying I will be happy with 24-7 or better as well. The issue is how much the metrics will hold our seed back. IDK really. Also, we have only put together a couple of complete games in conference so far...so yes there is a lot to improve upon. Mainly consistent production from all of the controllables.

We have to stay mentally in the game for 40 minutes. My only question is whether we have the players who can focus for 40 minutes or if they need another year to make habits out of all the little details. We can't take nights off crashing the boards or protecting the ball or leaving 3 point shooters open, etc. We have to do it all at once every night.

It seems like every time Cronin wants to focus on one or two keys in a game 1 or 2 other aspects have to suffer. That didn't happen much with Gary and Jacob around. We still have another gear we can get to but we haven't been able to put it all together.

Defense still needs improvement. The bigs need to go up strong with the damn ball. And that should not come at the expense of something else.

I was curious so I checked out their message board. Wow. I've never seen so much salt. Some gems:

Cincy fans are mentally deficient.
God I hate Cincy. The fans are big crybabies
I HATE Cincy fans
These fans are remarkably inbred morons.
Cincy fans really are the worst.
Cumberland is one of the most dislikable players in the conference. Dude thinks he is a saint
Are all of the male students at Cincy neck beards?
At least the babies can still get their naps in the arena
I'm just gonna assume the reason Cincy fans are always so angry is due to their built up rage from never accomplishing anything in March

And if you want to know what they look like, lol:

None of that surprises me. Wichita State fans thought they were going to run the conference last year too.

A good portion of their fans on that board think they still have a decent shot at an NIT bid on top of making a run to win the AAC tournament in Memphis.

They're mediocre this year, likely won't be much better next year, and aren't guaranteed anything near certain success beyond that.

I'd be upset if I were in their position too.

It's funny when people from Wichita Kansas think other cities are podunk and "inbred" lol They're only what, a quarter of the size of Cincinnati?

The population of Cincinnati is 301,301, and Wichita is 390,591 as of 2017 estimations.

Cincinnati has an area of 79.54 sq mi, and Wichita has an area of 163.59 sq mi.

The population of the Metropolitan area of Cincinnati is 2,137,406 and Wichita is 644,610, which is what I assume you're actually talking about.
