Hearing Cincinnati big man Yancy Gates has been unstoppable in Bearcats postseason workouts.

It's not a stretch to think that Yancy could have a monster senior year. Things seemed to click last year and the urgency of this being his last year has probably added to his focus too. Can't wait for next season to start. Things are looking up in Bearcat land!

Think Yancy is on a mission for the coming season. I really like the returning players. The likely starting 5 matches stacks up nicely imo. If we get decent minutes from the reserves the team will be really good.

Everybody in that group plays pretty good defense but SK. Gaines has good defensive tools. JP is average. As some have mentioned on here the defense and rebounding from the newcomers will be huge. Cheikh and one of the new wings have to provide positive minutes. Guyn will be a good defensive player I believe.

The guy averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds a game for the last 9 games they played. He played very well. Even though he dipped off early during the conference season, he got over his problems and showed a lot of heart. For as much flack as he gets, I think people will really miss him when he is gone. A man of his size and soft touch is to be treasured. Nowhere was that more apparent than in the Xavier and Missouri games. He also shot 70% from the free throw line his last 10 games, including the 10/10 he went in the second game against Georgetown.

Definitely. Not only is he a good, productive player (who was close to great his last 10 games of the year), he just commands attention in the low post. That is an asset to our wings and a void we will need to fill in 2012-13.

But I'm going to enjoy next season first.

This is a big season in terms of maintaining recruiting momentum. Another nice season and some success in the NCAA Tournament would say the Bearcats are more than a one season story. It'll say they are planning on making the post season a habit.

Just a really stupid comment. Really stupid.

If you don't want to believe it, that's fine. But to compare Gates and Toyloy just embarrasses you. Badly.

Similar to thinking summer workouts are a good way to judge a players improvements. For Yancy it is between the ears.

Gates got offered to tryout for the USA team in World University Games. This is a good thing for the big guy, can only be a positive experience.

I was just talking with someone today about how it would be nice if he could play somewhere like Kenyon did before his senior year. He has the potential to have a monster year. Could be good to have some different coaches getting in his ear.
