It seems the bearcats have landed a solid juco player in Titus Rubles.
My question is are there any other Jucos that could help the bearcats and a rating/ranking of these players anywhere. For example Chek was ranked #11 last year but didnt even seem close to being a solid contributor this year.

Toyloy wasnt exactly on a very good team either though?
I think there is some hope for Chek to be a contributor but i just dont see a solid player there. I hope I am wrong. It seemed back in the day the top Jucos were VERY good -Ruben Patterson, Immanuel Mccelroy, Bobbit..

because high school students go to prep schools now instead of juco's. 10-20 years ago, if you needed extra time to get your grades in order- you went juco. now you can do that in one year at a prep school and not sacrifice any eligibility at the D-1 level, whereas with juco you had to sacrifice 2 years.

Well said I wasnt sure on the schooling timeframes for jucos/prep school.
I guess I miss the days of finding some real juco gems out there.
The top ten jucos still seem to have an impact though.
The PG for Baylor turned out very well among others

Cats are looking at Trency Jackson a shooting guard whose team made the finals in the juco tournament.

Jai Crowder. DJO, Ricardo Ratliffe, Pierre jackson. All jucos that are very good. There is some talent out there.

Sullinger entering Draft. I no its not the part of the thread but I didn't know how to start a thread.

Exactly. Now if you have qualification issues you can just go to prep schools like Brewster or Notre Dame Prep (where SK went) who are notorious for accumulating the top non-qualifying D-1 prospects. There still cases of quality players at the JUCO level like the Marquette guys, but they are now few and far between. Rubles is the #2 JUCO in the nation and I think is a legit D-1 player.

Toyloy was way more productive than Mbodj has been so far.

Think so? Toyloy's senior season he averaged 3.3 ppg and 3.3 rpg in about 15 mpg. Mbodj averaged last season 1.7 ppg and 2.1 rpg in about 9 mpg. I would say it's pretty much a push. I'd bet big money he beats 3 and 3 next season, especially not starting the season out injured (knock on wood).

how is that a push? They may be small numbers but you just showed Toyloy's numbers being about twice as much as Mbodj. And you weren't talking about next year, you said Mbodj has already done more than him. I don't know how that can be said based on Mbodj basically doing nothing this year.

also, just to note, Toyloy averaged 4 pts, 4 rebs his junior year. Not much, but definitely more than Mbodj. That said, this team needs Mbodj to have a much better year next year for them to be successful.

Look again...Toyloy had averaged 15 minutes per game while Mbodj averaged 9. So yeah, basically a push.
To clarify, I misspoke in saying that he's already done more than Toyloy. I suppose that was just my anticipation that he will do more next year. Also this is more of my low opinion of Toyloy than a high opinion of Mbodj.

I still don't think that's a push, but whatever. It's not like I thought highly of Toyloy, but so far Mbodj hasn't done squat. I was really impressed with him in summer ball so hopefully he figures it out. However it's tough to improve your hands in one off season and his hands are horrible.

The point was that if he played as many minutes as toyloy they would have had basically the same numbers. Multiply 1.7x1.66 and you get 2.8ppg; multiply 2.1x1.66 and you get 3.5 rpg. I really don't see how you can say their numbers weren't essentially the same. But you're right, doesn't matter. Mbodj needs to have a great offseason for me to feel comfortable with him playing 20+ minutes.

The reason why players from prep schools are better than kids that are juco transfers, is because obviously they have 2 more years of elidgability, but also prep schools play agaist other prep schools. The ESPN top 100 has at least 50 kids in it (probably more) that are in prep schools. They are constantly playing against good opponents, where as jucos do not play against good opponents the majority of the time, thats why it is hard to judge how good juco's are because they don't play against anyone until tournament time, where as prep schools play against good teams all year around. I saw Brewster Play Tilton prep earlier this year and it looked like a big east game.

So Mbodj wasn't good enough to get 15 minutes of time on the floor so his numbers become a push with Toyloy? I'm not buying that.

What the numbers show is Mbodj was worthless last year and we would have been better off if Toyloy was still around. Which is a scary thing to say.

But he didn't play as many minutes because he wasn't good enough to get on the floor.
