Juco Talent

The point was that if he played as many minutes as toyloy they would have had basically the same numbers. Multiply 1.7x1.66 and you get 2.8ppg; multiply 2.1x1.66 and you get 3.5 rpg. I really don't see how you can say their numbers weren't essentially the same. But you're right, doesn't matter. Mbodj needs to have a great offseason for me to feel comfortable with him playing 20+ minutes.

The numbers weren't the same, simple as that. You were talking production. You can't just you multiply everything by the minutes. Hell, UC should have played Eppensteiner more, because if you multiple his minutes out to a full 40 minute game, he'd average 20 points a game....Doesn't work.

mbodj was hobbled early on by his ankle, put on a little extra weight, and as Cronin said repeatedly this season, was bothered by his ankle and was not going to be the player he can be until next year when he is fully healthy.

he definitely did not impress this year and my expectations are not high for him next year. however, let's reserve judgment on him until we can see him healthy. most (not all) juco's take a year to get acclimated regardless.

Good point. Bottomline, neither was terribly productive, but Mbdoj has one more year to prove himself and I'm hopeful he does.

Definitely agree. I do think he has more potential than Toyloy ever did. If nothing else hopefully he can be an inside presence on the defensive end.

X just picked up their version of Lance Stephenson, Chris Thomas.

Well that sucks...How you pick X when you have your pick of the litter is beyond me...
Glass half full analysis:
-Lyons will be gone
-Worst case scenario he's there for two years

I don't think he had his pick of the litter. He left high school early to play juco. At this point, who knows if he will ever play college basketball. But if this kid wants to commit, you don't turn him down. He is NBA talent, but a ton of issues.

Def some issues, but really hoping to see two five stars in the back court at Xavier in a couple of years with Dez on the wing. Just need some bigs (Hopefully the 4 star big coming in will be good)

Kid is freakishly talented, but his attitude issues make Stephenson seem like a choir boy.

When you're not Duke, UK or UNC, beggers can't be choosers.

Honestly these are types of moves schools in non power conferences have to make. Cincinnati, when in the Metro and C-USA, had to recruit questionable character kids from JUCO's like Van Excel and Blount, etc. Xavier now has to do the same to get high major type kids like Crawford, Lavender, Holloway and now Thomas.

are you a xavier fan?

If uc wanted chris thomas we could have had him. No one wanted him. Hes not very talented and hes not big east material. X is irrelevant mid major material they can have their mid major thug player in their mid major arena.

I don't get on this site often, is BearcatMick the same as Ralph?

Yep- same guy that called UC a low major. I didn't come around much after the crosstown this year but I think I saw someone say he actually has a couple other names also. He also said Mack can't recruit even though he knew Xavier had the 14th rated class in the country next season and now another 5 star (#5 prospect in his class) coming in. I will take that any day.

recruiting

I find it hard to believe that Mick and Savino are supposed to hang their hats on recruiting when they predominately land 3 star recruits and maybe one 4 star player every few years. Any big east school could probably land 3 star players without doing any recruiting. They only 5 star guy they could get only came to U.C. because all other schools backed off when they discovered his issues. Some might sight the status of U.C. when Cronin came as why he can't recruit top tier players or maybe the facilities, but if we look to schools like Arizona, N.C. State, St. John or even X, I think we can see what a good recruiter looks like. While U.C. had a good season and made a sweet 16 this year I hardly believe that will be the norm with they type of players Mick recruits; and even if they do sustain consistent NCAA tourney births is that enough to satisfy us fans? Until U.C. gets a coach that can recruit the top 100 I guess we should just be happy about making the ncca tourney. So we worry about juco's and the 105th ranked player in the 2012 class....thats where we are? worrying if Mick can land the 105th best player... why

Thomas is a major cancer. All the big schools. Uk unc duke. Wanted no part. I bet he never plays a minute at x. But then again so was lance and we took him. By the way semaj chris ton is very overrated. Dude is quick but is a terrible shooter. Dsr is easily the better of the two. I like wells a lot and that Reynolds guy looks solid.
