BearcatTalk

Help Support BearcatTalk:

Deonte and his family have their information and will announce in the coming days. The staff and players represented the Cincinnati Bearcats very admirably. I will add that I believe the Bearcats and Deonte have a strong mutual interest. How that translates this week only time will tell. He is a smart young man with a strong family base and will make the decision that best fits for him. We of course will continue to pull for the Bearcats and would love to see him in uniform next fall!

Things seems to be going too well for him not to be a bearcat. I would say 85 percent chance.

I am always reluctant to put a percentage on a recruit signing. There are always things going on behind the scene most don't see and hear from others that have interest in a young man's skills and talent. Also, the decision in many cases isn't the recruits alone. It's a mutual decision made with the family. I do believe U.C. is in his top two schools of choice and that there is a reasonable chance Deonte could be a Bearcat.

I do think the family has questions that need to be resolved, but I would say it looks favorable at this point.

Just went to the UCLA boards to see what they have to say about Deonta and learned that Deonta's aunt "ginagelj" who regulary post here on Bearcat Talk also has been posting on the UCLA boards as "ginagel"

Let me just say that the UCLA fans have been very disrespectful towards her and and one poster resorted to name calling.

ginagel, I'm sorry that they treated you so badly and it makes me proud to be a Bearcat fan to log on to this site and to read the respect that the members have for each other and also the respect we have for our recruits and their families.

I appreciate your input ginagel and would love to have your nephew in a Bearcat uniform.

Their loss is our gain.

LOL @ UCLA fans saying "Cincinnati couldn't shine UCLA's shoes" and "Good luck to Deonte playing in obscurity." Oh yeah, the PAC-10 is so awesome as compared to the BEast.

Sounds like the Bruins feel a bit spurned by Deonte. I never liked UCLA, and UC has the greatest player to ever play in Oscar. Either way, I am sorry that they treat potential recruits and their family with disrespect. It is very indicative of their class. Just more evidence that message boards should be taken seriously in the recruiting game. As for Deonte, we are all pulling for you to become a Bearcat!

UCLA is a great program without a doubt. But so is UC. I will say when you go on this message boards and your a family member of recruits or teams that you need to have thick skin sometimes.

Sad that UCLA fans can't treat her or our favorite program with respect. Oh well. Deonta and UC will need to earn it on the court next year...

Fans of any respective program should not extrapolate the success of that program into some sort of inflated sense of entitlement. Appreciate what you have and understand how hard it is to obtain and keep.

UCLA fans should understand that, as they spent a period in obscurity, as UC did. Most of all, I've learned over the years that we should not attack a young man for the decisions he makes...whether I feel it is right or wrong is of no consequence. It is his decision to make, whether that be Lance Stephenson or Deonte Burton.

If Deonte chooses UC, I will be proud to welcome he and his family to the Bearcat family. If not, I really do wish him well. UCLA fans would do well to remember that success is fleeting, but character lasts.

Does Deonta remind anyone else of Mel Levvit? He can hang in the air...

I know Deonta is a little shorter but man I just cant help but think of the helicopter.

Deonte Burton

6-foot-1 combo guard; Compton Centennial
Burton's stock skyrocketed in December, when he was named MVP of the Westchester Tip-Off Classic. He sat out last season after transferring to Centennial from Cabrillo, where he had been one of the state's top sophomores. Burton is incredibly accurate from three-point range and the free throw line. Throughout this season, he has improved his ability to get his teammates involved, a skill that will boost his stock heading into the spring signing period
.

All indications are that He and Sean got along very well and that he really liked his visit.

FYI, here's the link to a blog entry from Nevada's beat reporter.

Off Topic: I've been following your board for the past couple of weeks and I want to commend you all on the class you have shown Nevada through all of this. It isn't often that I run across a BCS school whose fans are as respectful as you guys seem to have been toward Nevada in this process.

Thanks for the link! From what I read Deonte seems to have a good sense about him. Would love to see him come to UC but, either way, his future appears very bright.

It seems like Burton really cares about his academics as well (which is a great thing IMO). I have heard he wants to go into Forensics. How is Nevada's program (if you know)?

Thanx for the link and the nice comment.

Glad to have you hear. You should stick around for the week as we await Burton's decision. How do you feel?
