It seems like Burton really cares about his academics as well (which is a great thing IMO). I have heard he wants to go into Forensics. How is Nevada's program (if you know)?

I really don't know. The criminal justice department is good and my guess is that the forensics department is part of that. We do have the National Judicial College on campus, though I'm not sure that makes a difference either way.

That makes it interesting. We have the #3 rated CJ program in the country.

Glad to have you hear. You should stick around for the week as we await Burton's decision. How do you feel?

Thanks for the welcome.

Nevada has basically said he's first in line for the starting point guard spot if he wants it. He's been our #1 recruit for quite a while and he really enjoyed his visit back in February.

Based on the RGJ interview, it may come down to whether or not Babbitt declares for the draft. I don't think it is a coincidence that the deadline for declaring for the draft is the day Burton will make his announcement. We don't know what Babbitt will do, so we really don't know what Burton will do. Murray, the reporter who did the interview thinks Burton is leaning toward Nevada. AW Prince, the publisher over at silverandbluesports.com thought he'd go with UCLA and was surprised that Burton narrowed it to Nevada and Cincinnati.

We'd love to have him. His highlight videos remind me a lot of Armon Johnson who just left early for the NBA. I think he's a better shooter than Armon was. Wherever he ends up, I think he's going to be a very good player.

One thing that may give UC the edge here is that he would be playing SG for us and he would have a chance to play big minutes as a Freshman as long as his defense is decent.

One thing for sure is that Deonte will make a well thought out decision. Told a regular poster via pm earlier today I thought He would decide between Nevada and UC. What I know for sure is he really had a very good visit here as well. He hung out with Sean Kilpatrick and played ball with the team and had a really good time competing. My guess is there will be alot of discussion between him and his family over the next few days. There is playing time available at both schools. One is close to home and is a solid program. The other plays in possibly the most nationally televised conference in college basketball. Has a solid core of returning players, and is rising. The exposure he would get on the BEast stage is simply incredible. What a place to showcase his ability! Only Deonte and his family truly know what is best for him. It is good that he now says distance isn't an issue. I like what UC has to offer him in terms of opportunity and an arena to showcase himself to the world while he helps raise this team to another level. Him, Sean, Thomas, Gates, Cash, Parker, Bishop, Wilks, Dixon, Jackson and the rest would be a very Dynamic team indeed!! .

We lost 3 guards to graduation, one to the NBA draft, and there is a rumor that another may be leaving because he sees the writing on the wall that he probably isn't good enough to compete against our newcomers. Both starting guard spots are up for grabs for us, but we clearly want him to play the point. FWIW, our last two point guards were high scoring shooting guards in high school that made the transition to the point and started as freshman. Both left after three years for the NBA. We do ask our point guards to score as well as distribute, so he won't have to change his game completely.

Good interview with his AAU team's coach.

: “He’s an explosive dude. He can shoot, score, slash, attack the rim. He’s good enough right now to step into a college program and be a big-time scorer. I’m very surprised he hasn’t gotten more attention. Our team was loaded this year. We had 10 guys playing Division I and he’ll be the last to sign. We had guys like Allen Crabbe, who’s going to Cal, Bryce Jones, who’s going to USC. We had five of the seven players of the year on the team and we have guys who will be paid to play one day and there were plenty of nights where Deonte was our best player.”

Sounds like Nevada could use him more than UC, although I think most UC fans would argue that vociferously.

Nevada just signed a 6'11" center from Australia that attended Pratt CC in Kansas. They are holding there lone remaining schooly for Deonte. It is truly down to these two schools barring something behind the scene upsetting the apple cart.

Nevada has alot of new players coming in. That would give Deonte potentially more playing time. However, if it comes down to playing with more returning talent and against high level competition, it has to be UC. Plus, he has a very good shot at playing alot here too. Those are ultimately the questions to me. What is more important? I'm hoping that as a high level athlete that he wants to play against the best night in and night out. He'll have that in the BEast while attending Cincinnati.

Apparently he'll announce at a Saturday event. If I hear anything prior I'll post it.

"Burton said Monday he has cut his list to Nevada or Cincinnati and will announce his decision Saturday at the Collision XII All-Star game at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif."

That might help but lets be honest here guys....

Nevada is a good program and has been on a good path but we simply have more to offer Deonte. It doesnt mean everything but I am a dedicated college hoops follower and dont remember ever seeing The wolfpack on TV last year. UC had a ton of games on national TV. Including 3 in the Big East tournament.

UC is in need of a scorer and we need to replace Deonta Vaughn and Lance. It goes together way to well for him to go elsewhere.

I am not sure what conference they are in but it isnt the Big East. I know that sounds arrogant but seriously. We can not lose out to Nevada. Just can not happen.

I agree that it wouldn't make much sense, but the Wolf Pack fans seem fairly confident...and Deonte sure made it sound like he'd be heading to Nevada if Babbitt didn't declare for the NBA.

Can anyone confirm a time that Deonte is announcing his decision?

Saturday at around 1:30 pacific time. Even with Babbitt returuning UC has more talent coming back and a better shot at putting a winner on the floor. Let's not be disrespectful to Nevada. He obviously has respect for them. Let's just weigh the pros and cons of each program. Butler going to the finals shows anything is possible, but a run like that happens once every 10-15 years. If you want to play on the big stage (national television/top competition) year in and year out, you have to be part of a BCS conference.

We're on TV quite a bit for a WAC team, but most in the east are already in bed by the time it happens. ComcastSportsNet California picks up a lot of our games also, so there's quite a bit of TV exposure on the west coast. Just to be fair, I also consider myself an avid college basketball fan and I didn't see a single Cincinnati game last year either that I recall. I can definitely see the advantages Cincinnati offers, but obviously as a Nevada fan, I don't think they are all significant enough to make the decision a no-brainer. FWIW, I do think Deonte is probably leaning Cincinnati.

We are in the WAC and are typically a top 10 conference. Basketball had a really down year three seasons ago, but the conference has really upped its recruiting the past couple of years and it shows. Nevada has consistently been one of the top 10 programs on the west coast regardless of conference. I don't blame you for the attitude, as I have similar thoughts about conferences like the MAC or Sun Belt. Based on Pomeroy's rankings (because its the easiest to look at past years) for the past few years, Nevada and Cincinnati have performed similarly recently. Nevada typically plays a tougher out of conference schedule and Cincinnati obviously plays a more difficult conference schedule.

I do have a question which I am hesitant to post here as I don't know how sensitive the subject is, but what is the Big East going to look like two years from now with the Big Ten expansion talk heating up and most of the targets being in the Big East?

I agree that it wouldn't make much sense, but the Wolf Pack fans seem fairly confident...and Deonte sure made it sound like he'd be heading to Nevada if Babbitt didn't declare for the NBA.

I don't know how confident we are. I think he's a Cincinnati lean right now, but maybe Babbit's decision will make the difference in our favor if he stays. We do think that if Deonte chooses Nevada he will be the next point guard in line to run the show for us and make it to the NBA. We really like the players who will be new next year as well as those who are returning and think Burton is the final piece of the puzzle to get us into the tournament and possibly make some noise.

My posts were not to be disrespectful but it is a UC board. Being in the Big East puts us on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU double digits a year. We were on ESPN's main channel at least 5 times.

Deonte seems to really like Neveda. I am glad we got the last visit. Good luck on thursday.

No disrespect taken. You are undoubtedly on TV more, but Nevada is on quite a lot for a non-BCS school. That was my only point.

Honestly, we were surprised when Burton had us in his final three because we heard he had a case of bigconferenceitis and most of us had written him off to a BCS school.

I live in Phoenix Arizona and was able to watch at least 8 or 9 games UC played on the ESPN networks and another on CBS sports (not including ESPN 360 because dishnetwork isn't on the provider list). I honestly can't remember a Nevada game being on tv. Obviously it's easy to say that when you don't follow the team but living in the west it's awesome to be able to follow my team due to the Big East/ESPN contracts.

Wherever Deonte goes I wish him the best. Thanks for not coming to the message board to rag on anyone. Like you said of our members, it's nice to have an informed conversation without all the negative nonsense.

The interview he did with a Nevada newspaper made it sound like he is leaning toward Nevada right now. I hope I am wrong though.
