By the way, thanks to all those who keep us updated on all the recruiting news. These have been my first posts but I frequent the boards often.

When was the interview? Before or after the weekend visit?

It was posted yesterday and the author made it seem like he talked to Deonte yesterday, but he never expressly said that.

Also, you have to really emphasize that the interview was with a Nevada newspaper (god forbid the Enquirer would do anything like that). It only seems natural to talk more about the school whose beat writer is interviewing you...

Good point. We shall see. I think it bodes well for UC that he came back for a second visit. Thanks for the info.

Bearcattalk.com is the premier site for UC recruiting information on basketball. It is free to boot.

Our football recruiting is incredable too. Keep in mind it is free.

This place will be hoppin Thursday.

I think he is a 55-45 or 60-40 UC lean but I know he likes both programs alot. His visit as I said, went really well. But it certainly won't surprise me if he goes to Nevada.

On the television issue. Nevada does get some national exposure, but for the most part the coverage is regional. The BEastb affiliation with ESPN is huge in terms of exposure.

On the BEast landscape changing. Even if the BEast were to lose two of it's top teams, which I don't think will happen (guessing Rutgers or Syracuse and Missouri), it still will be one of the top 3-4 conferences in America top to bottom. And will have it's seasons as the debatable top conference. That is what separates the ACC and BEast in recent seasons. Their middle tier teams are all very good and there are virtually no give me's, especially on the road, in the conference.

If we are simply debating those two aspects and that is Deonte's main reasons to go to his school of choice then I think UC has an advantage. However, there are always intangibles.

Recent Success may be similiar, but in this you have to factor in the conference schedule Cincinnati plays. The 16 game BEast schedule is a guantlet. With all due respect, I don't think you can compare success in the WAC with the BEast.

Logistics...Deonte said this is no longer an issue. Bodes well for Cincinnati.
Familiarity...I think because of the regional coverage, and the closeness of the university, that Nevada has an edge here.
Opportunity...I believe both schools offer opportunity. It's a question of what opportunity he is looking for. A chance to be the man? (Nevada) Strong core of returning players (Cincinnati). Playing time (Even)

To me it'll come down to what is most important to him in terms of opportunity. I think he could be a missing piece for both teams that could raise them up a level. I just think that level will be a notch higher playing in the BEast.

I do have a question which I am hesitant to post here as I don't know how sensitive the subject is, but what is the Big East going to look like two years from now with the Big Ten expansion talk heating up and most of the targets being in the Big East?

I'm going to start a new thread for this, as I think it will spark some really good conversation, but it is off topic in this thread.

Nevada is a good school, not just in hoops, but also football. This is not a slamdunk like many UC fans hope it is. I'm nervous, but optomistic.

Deonte would probably see Nevada more on TV than we do - time difference, logistics, etc.

I would say that Nevada would have an edge in closeness to home. UC might have an edge in terms of the conference itself, tradition, and national TV exposure. He seems to be a pretty competitive guy and I doubt the prospect of a fight for playing time or Big East competition is a detriment to him at all, but rather the opposite.

I wouldn't label this a colossal failure if he chooses Nevada, nor do I think it says anything about UC. Deonte and his family, I'm guessing, will weigh all these options and do what seems right for him at this time in his life. I certainly hope he chooses the Bearcats but it would neither shock nor anger me if he went the other way.

I say that in terms of what is important to Deonte. Of course UC has advantages in those things, but do they trump the proximity to home?

I really hope that we can bring in Burton. He will be absolutely huge for the program next year. UC is in dire need of at least 2 scorers, and Deonte looks to be an absolute baller. He seems like he is terribly underrated, and looks like he will be a stud. However, I am very nervous that Nevada will be the choice, because of the distance factor, but I hope I am wrong.

Yep. I'd say there's a 90+% chance he's Cincinnati-bound at this point.

Regardless of how this turns out, thanks for coming on the board and posting. I think I speak for most UC fans when I say that we really didn't know too much about Nevada and I appreciate the info you brought to the board.

Hopefully this is the first of a few dominoes to fall in the next few days... everything keep those positive vibes rollin'!!!
