I just noticed your sig....he never thanked Tony Yates, not even once. :)

We all want you to become a bearcat Deonte! Hopefully you enjoy your trip here and are ready to join the Bearcats!

One of the things that has impressed me most about Burton is his desire to include academics in his decision. It shows a maturity most kids his age do not have, and some forethought into potential life after basketball. You see a lot of NBA players going back to school as their careers wind down...why not have that degree to fall back on already, just in case of injury or other issues?

There is also some benefit to being away from home for a few years...allows a young man to really come into his own, focus on studies and learn how to make strong independent decisions. If Deonte was on the immature side, I'd say staying at home in relative safety might make some sense, but being the kind of guy he seems to be, I think he would find UC a fantastic school and Cincinnati a fantastic city to take the next step in the process of manhood.

But hey, I'm a UC homer :) And I want tough minded, strong willed winners representing my school on the basketball court. Oscar Robertson, Nick Van Exel, Danny Fortson, Kenyon Martin, Jason Maxiell, Eric Hicks, Steve Logan...guys like Immanuel McElroy, Erik Martin, Lenny Stokes, Kenny Satterfield...all strong willed WINNERS. Man I'm really hoping Deonte can see the legacy and the potential he has not only to be a part of it, but to add his own distinctive mark on this program.

And remember, guys like Corie Blount, Erik Martin and Terry Nelson all took a chance on moving from California to Cincinnati...and it ended up in a Final 4 and Elite 8 appearance (the loss to North Carolina ranks as my favorite game ever, man those guys gave everything they had). Hopefully Deonte will make the leap, and similar succes will come.

And his choice of vocations is forensics and Cincinnati has one of the top programs in the nation in forensics. It just really seems like an all around good fit. Ultimately whatever choice this young man makes I wish him well. But I truly believe Cincinnati is a perfect fit for him. I am a homer too, but in this case I'm not speaking as one.

will be an uphill battle IMO

Well, let me say this. If, and all indications are that he is, coming back this weekend, then it's not an uphill battle. There is serious interest when a young man makes two trips from the west coast to Cincinnati. There are rumors he is a slight UC lean. I can't confirm that, but it's out there. Let's not kid ourselves, you don't make a trip of that magnitude twice if you don't have some serious interest.

So Deonte is coming in tomorrow, is that correct? Hopefully we'll know as much as possible about how his trip went as soon as possible because I'm dying for some positive recruiting news... Represent the 'C... become a 'Cat Deonte!!!

calling 32

That's good news to hear! Speaking of good news, where is the_one_32? Any inside (vague) info? I always have enjoyed your information. Anything at all? I'm dying here :)!

UC is in need of a scorer or 2. Burton really fits that bill. With the lossed of Vaughn, even though he struggled last season, and Stephenson, this is a scoring deprived team. I really think that UC needs at the very least 1 scorer in this class. 2 scorers would be ideal. 3 would be even better, although I doubt there are enough scholarships available to get 3 more players.
