Jefferson receiver Andre Davis, regarded as one of the top junior prospects in the state, has been invited to participate in the U.S. Army All-America combine and the Under Armour All-American Game combine, Dragons coach Mike Fenton said Monday.

Davis (left, No. 7) is planning on attending both, which essentially serve as tryouts for each respective All-American game, complete with competitions similar to the NFL Combine. Alonso junior defensive lineman Anthony Chickillo received an invitation to the U.S. Army combine last week.

Both combines will take place the first week January, Under Armour's at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando and the U.S. Army combine in San Antonio.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Davis leads the bay area with 985 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns on 53 receptions. He has already received scholarship offers from Miami, Florida State, USF and Florida International. He is also one of four local juniors to be named to ESPNU's Class of 2011 Top 150 Watch List.

WR Andre Davis (Jefferson)
Size, speed, quickness…you name it, Davis showed it this weekend at the Badgers event. His strongest attribute however is his hands. He caught anything in the general area and made some dynamic grabs throughout the weekend. His route running has improved a significant amount from last year and Davis has even added a little more muscle to make it even more difficult to contain in bump and run tight coverage situations.

Do we have any real shot at landing this kid?... Looks like a true stud who's going to be able to choose to go to any school in the country by the end of his recruitment...

I think about half or more of the offers we have already UC has almost zero chance at. BJ needs to wrap up at least half of his class before most of these kids will even begin making a decision. Some of the kids who aren't offered at this point are plan B kids, but actually...unless UC starts off the season with a bang, we're probably likely to to get a good portion of those.
To summarize...I like the offers by BJ, but I'm not hopeful just yet.

I like shooting for the stars... just wondering what it's going to take to start landing a handful of those players a year... they're starting to get 1-2 true high level national recruits a year... they need to be at 4-5 if they want to compete at the highest level... and by high level national recruit I'm talking top 150-200 in the nation...

BJ is doing a good job at going after the high 4 star guys, I just don't see it happening yet. I think a big determination will be how UC does, as well as other programs. If Louisville/ND/Michigan have a not so great year, then UC will definitely benefit.
Coaching changes late in the year will also help BJ. With him just coming in does provide security for a recruit and his parents.
We'll see what happens with the big name recruits, but I also wouldn't recommend alienating solid 3 stars because we're holding out for players that have no real interest in UC.

From the Elite Scouting Combine this weekend:

• Wide receiver Andre Davis (Tampa, Fla./Jefferson) was outstanding during one-on-ones and showed off the ability to make tough catches, which makes him a highly desirable prospect. Davis has great hands and is very athletic. He also looked healthier than he did three weeks ago at the Miami Nike Football Training Camp in Coral Gables, Fla.

Of UM, he says, "They're telling me how I need to come see them, get to know the players. They send a bunch of letters. Last week I got handwritten letters from the whole staff - they were saying they can't wait to see me."

Davis says he'll visit Miami at some point, but he's not sure when. He lists all the schools recruiting him as "even, pretty much."

One poster w/ good cred thinks he will probably end up at Miami, and not the one in Ohio.

ND might be offering soon. DeVaris Daniels may be cooling on them or vice versa, or could be problems w/ admissions....causing ND to throw out more WR offers.
