First "negative" comments I have ever heard about the kids game.
"He's arguably the most talented (high school) player in the country," said Evan Daniels, a recruiting analyst for Scout.com. "His speed and athleticism are the two things that set him apart. He has that extra gear and explosiveness at the point guard spot. That's not something that comes around all the time."
But Teague's reputation at home often isn't as glowing. He averaged 16.3 points and 4.6 assists and shot 43 percent as a junior at Pike, which finished 15-7 and lost in the sectional championship to Ben Davis. He was left off the first, second and third teams in the Associated Press all-state voting.
Opponents would often play zone against Pike, backing off Teague and making him shoot from the outside. He was 18-for-57 (32 percent) from the 3-point line.
"We try to take his drive away and play a step or two off," said Bloomington South coach J.R. Holmes, whose team plays in Conference Indiana with Pike and defeated the Red Devils 66-55 in January. "He's obviously one of the better athletes I've seen and very good in transition, but he didn't shoot quite as well in the games we saw."....
"With Marquis, I think he'll be a lot better with great talent around him," Daniels said. "The floor will open up for him. He needs to improve that long-range game, but he can be a heck of an NBA prospect."
