I know Burton's family was concerned about the negativity as well. It may not be the main reason, but it's a factor in the recruiting process.
One family member of a football recruit made a nice comment about our site here. I told the person I intended to keep it exactly is it is now. Intelligent, informative, civil discourse.

No way.

He can't sign for a while and who knows if Cal will be there and if UK will be in NCAA trouble.

Seriously... You dont focus on him but you stay on him for sure.

Jeremiah Davis remains the most important recruit. Focus your attention onto Davis and Behanan

It's a complicated question. A big part of the reason why Teague made his commitment now is because he wanted to end the recruiting process because it was wearing him out. Teague may have no desire to listen to schools any more.

Also, you only have so much time and so many resources to focus on recruiting. Wasting them on a player who is already committed is somewhat risky.

On the other hand, there is the possibility UK gets in trouble in the near future. I have already heard some speculation about Eric Bledsoe's eligibility. If something happens in the next year, you have to be prepared.

Ultimately I have no idea what Mick will do. I know he has a good relationship with Marquis, but I don't know how you recruit a kid that has already committed somewhere else.

This is disappointing to hear. It is hard enough to recruit against Cal and Pitino but is impossible when you have to recruit against your own "fans."

My guess is that Ralph is exaggerating here. I think Teague has always been interested in UC, but no one else has reported that he told Mick that he wanted to come to UC.

However, Todd Cunningham spoke of a conversation he had with Marquis' father that they were extremely concerned with the negativity. He had no reason to make that up, yet every negative poster said they didn't believe it.

If Mick said something, people would just say he was making excuses. The negative people surrounding UC's program simply won't acknowledge what that negativity is doing to the program, plain and simple...

I am not exagerating. Teague told Mick he was coming to UC, after his dad read all the negativity on BCN and BB he reopened.

I believe it. Unfortunately, those that are the most negative don't.

Negativity comes from losing and the perception that players aren't improving. It's been very, very hard to find positive things consistently in the past 5 years. This fan base has had to endure more disappointment in that time than most.

I'm not saying that negativity doesn't affect recruits. I am saying that positivity is hard to fake, and that results on the court could change all that quickly.

players do not base their decisions of message boards. worldwide wes and lebron's influence affected his decision. not bearcatnews.

im not saying they do not read them, im just saying that they are the the deciding factor in a decision- as you make it out to be.

But you would have to believe that other coaches use that against Mick during recruiting.

the negativity hurts, but you sir, are full of crap. and if you knew this why as of yesterday did you still think he was coming to UC?

Once Cal offered Teagues father the Head coaching job when he finally gets caught cheating and bolts for the nba he was KY's for the keeping LOL!!!!!! Oh well it sucks to lose this kid but who knows im not sold on Brandon Knight being a one and done player yet. What happens when he stays a extra year and him and Teague are fighting for the starting spot? He would wish then that he went to UC!!!!! I WANT KIDS WHO WANT TO BE HERE SO ITS HIS LOST AS FAR AS IM CONCERNED!!!!!!

I thought he was coming to UC because he told Mick he was coming to UC in January, before his dad started reading BCN and BB. BCN and BB are to blame, after his dad read what he read his dad soured on UC.

Don't follow basketball near as much as I follow our football program, but I have to say that like everyone else, I'm pretty disappointed with the way things have gone. Next season (and the future in general) scares me, but hopefully Mick will surprise me/us.

His dad was the deciding factor, what his dad read on BCN and BB put a very bad light on UC's chances to have Marquis become a Bearcat. In January Teague was UC's to lose and BCN and BB lost him for UC.

BCN and Bearcat Banter are to blame. Teague told Mick he was coming to UC in late January. His dad went to BCN and Bearcat Banter to read what was being said about the program. He read fire Mick, fire Mick, fire Mick. The negativity of these 2 websites is what caused Teague to go elsewhere.

I would like to pose a question, and would love an answer from anyone.

If Teague's dad was so concerned with the negativity of a team's message board, why was he not concerned with the negative perception that UK/Cal/WWW have NATIONALLY? It's everywhere.

Wouldn't articles in all types of publications, rumblings everywhere, hearsay, about a corrupt program, the possibility of future sanctions trump annonymous posters who visit a very small website in comparison?

I think it's bs. Him going to UK proves to me he went where he could just play ball, help his NBA chances and that's it. Did his dad go BCN, maybe. But I aint buying that had anything to with today. The kid has millions on the line, has his OWN opinion, and has enough people to inform him of anything that was brought up on BCN, BCB, BCT.

And these are all facts, huh? They sound awful familiar.

You bring up good points. The only thing I can see hurting Mick's chances is the speculation about him being fired. Teague's decision had nothing to do with people being down on the UC program or the UK program locally or nationally. His decision is/was affected by who the coach may be. Mick can say he is safe. Mike Thomas can say he is safe. We all know (and I am sure Teague's father understands this as well) that no coach is safe without the backing of the boosters. We don't know what the boosters are thinking. Look at what happened to Huggs. Calipari isn't leaving UK until the NCAA gets close to busting him for recruiting violations. He still has a good 5 or 6 years until that happens.

Good point, and I'm aware of that. But with the family's history in the game, their contacts, the AAU coaches, the HS coaches, the coaches recruiting them I find it hard to believe they had to go to BCN to find out he may be on the hot seat.

I'll admit the negativity certainly can't help but for people (Ralph) to call BCN BB the sole reason he's not here is ridiculous. The negativity has been all over the radio, it's been brought up in Enquirer articles. It's not a hidden fact only known to forum members. That info works it's way through the AAU circuit without a website IMO. People can just turn on the tv and see a half empty arena to figure out people aren't happy.

Just my .02.

I would agree. BCN is not the sole reason by any means but it definitely doesn't help. Even if it was all positive on BCN but negative elsewhere, Teague would not be a Bearcat today IMO. Negativity towards Mick surely has an impact on recruiting in general, though.

100% agree.

Fwiw, that's why I think we might be having some "hiccups" now. The negativity is out there and exists with or without websites and it does affect MC's ability to recruit.

Just win baby! (Sorry, the draft is tonight) :D
