The reason I said GG crossed us off the list is because Zagoria reported tonight that we are no longer in consideration.

And I'm not arguing that we haven't been in contact with him, I wondering what the nature of that conversation has been since Mbdoji has committed, especially this week now that God's Gift is ready to make up his mind.

Although St. John’s is considered the favorite for 6-foot-8 Erie (N.Y.) Community College power forward God’s Gift Achiuwa, his coach, Alex Nwora, said Wednesday that he had yet to make up his mind.

“He will announce at a press conference at 1 p.m. tomorrow [Thursday],” Nwora said by phone.

Sources said Cincinnati was out of the hunt for Achiuwa, leaving St. John’s and Washington.

Sources close to the Washington program indicated Wednesday they had yet to hear a decision one way or the other.

St. John’s has been recruiting Achiuwa since last summer and remains hopeful of landing him as the ninth player in the 2011 recruiting haul. Sources said he had a “great visit” at the Queens school.

LennRobbins has said on twitter he is announcing for St. Johns tomorrow. Looks like we have our class. Let's go Bearcats!

No I don't think you or longhaul was being argumentative. My only point was that they pursued him to sign him and if he signed there was a plan to make room.

There are so many conflicting reports with this. Those closest to him said as of Wed. evening he still hadn't made a decision. I believe many are using the Bill Koch blog as their "source" in regard to the Bearcats. I know of at least one who has. He may still land with SJU, but a surprise wouldn't shock me.

Getting questions on God's Gift. Nothing is final yet with St. John's. Announcement tomorrow.

Note: Today may be anti-climatic but this is the third thing I've read from credible sources that he is still mulling his decision. Most are saying UC is third or out.

Not necessarily. They could have very well wanted GG to hold off on making a decision until they knew if any of the incoming recruits were going to be eligible. School is still in session and I'm guessing it's too early to tell if any of the recruits who are bordering the eligibility line will make it or not. Like I've been saying for a while, my guess was GG was going to SJU and UC was in third and this was one of the reasons for me saying that. If he commits to SJU @ 1:00 it will come as no surprise to me. It also won't be a disappointment because (1) I'm not completely sold on his talent and (2) I'd rather have the 2011 class stay in tact.

I don't think that would be a surprise to anybody right? They have been the reported leader for some time now.

For some time? I've only seen them being the reported leader since yesterday. Of course I could have missed the other mentions of SJU being the leader but I've assumed that for weeks.

All non-UC and non-UW fans have had them as the leader since his recruitment started heating up.

I have said for awhile I thought UC had a better than average shot at him. If the reports are true he has made up his mind to commit to SJU who has been the reported leader for a couple months. Mick and Coach Savino really worked hard on this. I'm encouraged though. From the research I've done Mbodji has a better overall skill set. Physically Gift probably is more ready for BEast wars and rebounding.

I think that his skills are greatly overvalued because there is a lack of quality big men available. People have made out this above-average player to be a savior for a team, when I am not convinced of his skill set and his inclination to play the 3.

GG would have been a complement to this team in terms depth. I think either way GG would have been coming off the bench with Gates and Jackson starting. I think Mbodji will help in a backup role for Gates, as he is more of a true 5. But IMO neither are stars, but with this team lacking front court depth, they had to get a body in there. It's probably better that Mbodji committed instead of GG since he is in the 6'9 range and GG is in the 6'6" range. When Gates comes out they are going to need a big body in there. GG really doesn't fit that bill.

If I had to pick the one thing our coaching staff was best at teaching, I would probably pick rebounding. Plus we are very good at team rebounding. So hopefully this won't be too much of a factor.

If its true that GG is closer to 6'6 like longhaul mentioned, then its hard to believe Mbodji isn't the better fit for us.

Agree 100%. Plus Gift has no range beyond 10 feet and we sorely need somebody that can make a 12-15 foot shot which Mbodji reportedly can do and he can hit ft's.

Depth in the frontcourt has been my only concern for next season. GG has a great motor and my thought has been he would be good for defense and rebounding. If Moog can give us that we will be fine.

I found a site which i have never heard of or been to called jv sports which says "many insiders think gods gift will wind up at cincinnati." I cant get the link to work or i would post it. I am not sure how credible this is either but it is interesting and was posted today.
