After his visit here I was not surprised to hear that he was going to take the rest of his visits before deciding. For all we know the commitment of Mbodji could be a huge plus in his recruitment. Maybe they became good friends while visiting campus together? I think God's Gift will make a well informed decision about his future. I seriously doubt he falls victim to the snake oil salesman at UK. Why sign elsewhere to ride the bench?

Has said he wants to end the process. We'll see...

His coach says his decision is still up in the air. People are reading into UC and UW signing bigs but his coach says he has no ideal which way Gift will go.

2011 big man God's Gift of Erie JUCO will make his college decision soon between St. John's, Washington & Cincinnati, per @therecruitscoop

A negative spin on it from our great city newspaper, the Eniquirer:

"With God’s Gift Achiuwa still trying to choose from among three schools – Washington, St. John’s and UC – it seems unlikely that UC will be his choice. The Bearcats already have the maximum 13 scholarship players signed for next season, so if Achiuwa would choose UC, either someone on the current roster would have to go or one of the incoming recruits would have to fail to qualify academically to be eligible as a freshman.

The signing of six-nine power forward Cheikh Mbodj with UC two weeks ago did not preclude Achiuwa from choosing UC, but he understands the situation regarding an available scholarship and knows that at the very least he would have to wait a few weeks to see how the incoming recruits fare academically before he could get a scholarship, assuming one would become available at all. If he’s having a difficult time choosing from among the three schools, that would seem to be a huge strike against UC, which already has signed the player it set as its top priority."

I read that too but didn't he just write a blog post saying that UC would still have room should GG decide for UC? If what everyone is saying is true in regards to GG having trouble making a decision, I look at it this way:

- GG wants to come to UC
- UC doesn't have room right now and can't confirm they will
- SJU and Wash may not wait long enough for GG to see what happens with UC
- UC won't know about an open scholarship until all the players are cleared and thus it could be weeks

If this is how it is playing out, GG has to weigh the possibility of not being able to go to any of the schools if he waits too long for UC and it doesn't come through. I personally expect to see GG somewhere besides UC but I do think he wants to be at UC. I have no inside info. Just a gut feeling I have.

Good breakdown Jason. I was thinking the same thing dealing with the contradicting articles by the Enquirer which really doesn't hold much ground seeing we all already knew that. I also believe he wants to come to UC too. So if UC is concerned about one of the recruits not being able to come in are they able to tell GG that info/scenario before releasing that to the public? That would certainly help sway him in.

I'm sure GG knows the scholarship situation at each school. I don't know that the University can declare which recruit may not qualify or which player may transfer if that is the case but I am sure they can tell him that there is concern about a player qualifying and therefore there could be an additional scholarship available.

I'm sorry that I don't have the link but I did read that St. John's was targeting more than just GG for 2011. IMO, that can only help UC's chances since GG seems to be the one and only guy we would add for this fall.

There was a Jervon Pressley visit scheduled for this weekend a couple weeks ago- don't know if that got cancelled or not.

Thanks Jeff. I have not been able to post nearly as much lately and appreciate your work. If we paid you anything, I would give you a raise lol.

Best service for UC recruiting around and you can save 100 bucks.

Keep it up.

I would love Gods Gift. I think he would come in ready to play. Our 4 would go from a weakness to a strength

Thanks, wish I could give you an ideal of where he is leaning. He has done a good job keeping his cards under the table and has been very complimentary of each program to the local media and blog sites. All indications are UC is still in the hunt.

I just hope he picks UC because it opens up soooo much for style of play. The cats will be able to rest Yancy when he needs rest which will increase his productivity..It will also help on the boards as I feel he will be an upgrade over Thomas in that area.. It will also help when the brunt of the schedule hits... More depth=better late season results. Sign him and this instantly becomes Mick's deepest and most talented team.. It will remind me of the depth when they had Jermaine Tate along with Kenyon and Fletch. They could really wear teams down then. I continue to hold out hope that Gaines can come in and block shots and rebound well.. Guess we'll see.

The one thing that scares me is he repeatedly talks of playing time and playing in an uptempo style. He doesn't like halfcourt sets. Mick does run a lot of halfcourt sets and while there is playing time here, there will likely be much more at SJU.

If he wants to win next season then his choice should be UC based on what is returning. He'll receive playing time and join a group of solid returnees. Most everyone he met on his SJU visit will not be there next season.

This is too close to call. Mick and Coach Savino have put in the work. Let's hope it was enough.

No, your monotheistic deity of choice isn't about to bless a particular school. I just like to explore the punny possibilities presented by one of the best college hoops all-name team prospects of this or any other season: God's Gift Achiuwa.

In case you hadn't heard -- and God Shammgod has, so what's your excuse? -- God's Gift Achiuwa is the name of a current college hoops recruit, a 6-foot-9 forward from Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y. He was unearthed last year when his ability got him noticed by a handful of Division I programs, including St. John's. The name, in case you're wondering, was the selection of Achiuwa's father, a Nigerian minister who ... well, the name pretty much says it all, doesn't it?

Achiuwa has garnered increased attention as a junior college prospect since we last caught up with him, and it appears he's narrowed his college choices to three schools: Washington, St. John's and Cincinnati. According to his current coach, Erie's Alex Nwora, Achiuwa doesn't seem to be leaning toward any of the three. He is, however, reflecting deeply on the decision, and he plans to make it final this week:

"This is a kid who is a very tough kid to read," Nwora said. "He's just so smart. When we talk he says: 'Coach I like this school. I like this school. I connected with the coaches here. I connected with the coaches here. I liked the players here. I got to take my time. Sleep on this. Pray on this.'

"He's very religious. He's going to talk to his priest to make sure he has his blessing on what he's trying to do. And he told me sometime this week I'll let you know what I'm doing."
Achiuwa might not be Austin Rivers or Michael Gilchrist; his decision isn't going to make his new college team a national title contender. But he does have the ability to be a solid post contributor wherever he goes, and there's a reason he's garnered interest from so many high-major programs in the past 12 months. Plus, whatever coach lands him will be able to plausibly say it has "God's Gift" on his side. Whether you're religious or not, hey, it can't hurt.

so just clarifying, We dont have a scholly open as of now, but we will make room for GG if he want to come. right? and this is by far the best site! I will now save money

You are correct. UC would not have an open scholly as of right now. More than likely one of the other incoming freshmen would go prep school.
