I'm guessing SJU.

I would also guess SJU. But GG is very religious, as is Romar at UW, so I would not be overly surprised if he picked Washington. I don't think it will be UC, and I'm not sure if its all that disappointing. Looking at the U-tube video for Ellis, I would like to keep him in the program as he is long, athletic, and skilled. He would be great at the top of the press, and could be a special player once he adds some strength. Now if it is a given that he will not qualify, and a scholarship is going to be open, I would wish it could have been filled by GG.

gaines better start working....he's not ready but were gonna need him.

I guess we'll watch GG at SJU next year and compare his progress with Gaines. I personally don't think we're losing A LOT. GG would have been a luxury- was NOT a necessity, imo.

i dont want to give up on the idea just yet. seems like GG has been considering all three schools heavily, and there is a possibility a good nights sleep could bring a change of thought. will the bearcats be solid without him, sure. but it would be great to have another semi-experienced big to step in. it has been my thinking that Parker would transfer. i still think that it would be the best move if GG would chose UC and it would be in Parker's best interest to transfer to a smaller school where his deficiencies are not so pronounced. no matter what happens, i am excited for next year.
Go Bearcats!

GG isn't stupid. Currently there isn't a scholarship for him. He isn't going to commit somewhere that a scholarship isn't readily available. Personally, I like the team that is in place and I like the incoming recruits and the fact that they will be around for a while.

If GG commits there is already a plan or situation already in place. It already is what it is. The staff knows, Gift knows, and anyone else involved knows.

Not necessarily. Sure there may be a plan, but not one that is conducive to him committing to UC.

Your rationale is silly. If they are recruiting him of course it is conducive. That means a decision has already been made. He may go elsewhere but they have the ducks in a row for him to be here.

i do not want it to sound like i do not like the current players on the roster. i think this team will be very competitive. however, i feel like GG would allow this team to speed up their offense and bring more 'on the ball' pressure due to quickness. Parker has shown over the last two years (granted, it has not been major minutes, but...) that he lacks the speed with and without the ball to keep up with the majority of the guards in BEast. the fact that the big men, minus Gates, are inexperienced, and that the fresh talent coming in can potentially take minutes from Parker, lead me to my wishes of still getting GG. as always, i really enjoy the input from the members on this site. maybe i am biased, but this is the most informative Bearcat website. keep up the great work everyone.

I'm pretty sure if Parker was going to transfer, he would have done it by now. I'm pretty confident that he'll be back next year.

Well I don't know your source but Gift's coach has said as recently as 2 days ago Cincinnati is still in contact. Guess they just have nothing better to do.

Not true from what I've heard.

Jeff is obviously a lot more plugged in than I am, but I am wondering if a plan was in place immediately or if the coaches were asking GG to wait and see how things played out and he wasn't willing to do it.

First you had Koch's piece yesterday. It struck me at first as Koch just guessing and not knowing what he was talking about. But is it possible that he had a clue that the staff wasn't willing to 1.) kick a player off the team that wanted to be here. I have talked about this before, but the only player that would have made sense on the current roster is Parker. And Mick has expressed admiration for Parker throughout the season, and it was generally unsolicited. Combine that with the fact that I don't think Mick is that type of guy unless you aren't meeting expectations in terms of work ethic or in the classroom, and I don't think Parker would be forced out. He would have to choose to leave. The spring quarter hasn't ended yet, but you would think we would have heard something if Parker wanted to leave by now.

2.) to turn a recruit away unless he didn't qualify. There has been rumor of Ellis simply because it is assumed he isn't physically ready to compete in the Big East, nothing actually with his grades. I also heard that Guyn failed to get a qualifying score last fall, which was a surprise. But he has had time since then, and there still is time.

So if Mick isn't willing to kick a player off his team/turn a recruit away, he may still be recruiting GG (he says he always recruits), but he may have been asking him to wait and GG simply did not want to.

This is all speculation with some educated guesses. People with more information feel free to refute any of this. Its possible GG just crossed us off his list first.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see if GG is a better player than Mbdoji. We have heard about GG for a long time, but in one set of Juco top 50 rankings, GG wasn't ranked and Mbdoji was number 6. Maybe that was just because the level GG played at, but that level is at least somewhat concerning. It will be interesting to see what type of initial impact he makes.

From my view on our big men, I expect Yancy to be the player he was the last 10 games of the year, which was really strong.

I expect JJ to improve, hopefully to fill Thomas's role (who I believe is underrated by many UC fans) and maybe even better.

Hopefully Mbodji can fill the role of JJ last year.

And hopefully Gaines can fill the minutes of Wilks, but in a different role obviously.

We are going to be a little thin down low, but I actually think we will be pretty good. Obviously we are going to be heavily dependent on Gates, but he proved last year (for most of the year) to be an excellent defender that didn't foul much. Combine that with a strong perimeter and I think this team will be really good. Certainly not perfect, but still really good.

I've never said Gift was coming here. But please, the staff wouldn't be pursuing him up to this point if they weren't interested in him being here. If UC were marked off the list by GG they wouldnt still be pursuing him. His coach was quoted yesterday as saying he had no ideal which of the three schools he would choose. They would be spending that time recruiting 2012 kids if it wasn't a possibility. Think about it.
